So…if NAD+ declines as we age, can we do anything about it?

That was the question I had after learning what NAD+ actually does in our cells.

And the answer is more interesting than simply “take more NAD+.”

Our bodies already have systems for making, using and recycling NAD+. So researchers are looking at ways to support those systems — helping the body create NAD+, preserve more of what it makes, and actually use it where it’s needed.

And THIS is where the science behind Vivix+ starts to make a whole lot more sense.

Its NAD+ Boost Complex includes NMN, a precursor our bodies can use to make NAD+, and apigenin, a natural plant compound that helps slow NAD+ breakdown.

In other words:
CREATE it.
PROTECT it.
USE it.
I think that’s a much easier way to understand what we’re actually trying to support.

But of course, I had another question. 😂

Did it actually DO anything?

Shaklee studied Vivix+, and one of the results they reported involved something called VO₂ max.
And when I first heard that, my reaction was pretty much…
What the heck does VO₂ max have to do with aging? 😂

Turns out — quite a bit.

And that’s where we’re going next Sunday.
For now, swipe through this week’s Sunday Science and tell me:

Does CREATE • PROTECT • USE make the whole NAD+ conversation a little easier to understand?

So…what the heck IS NAD+? 😂

If you’ve been hearing NAD+ everywhere lately and wondering what everyone is talking about, you’re not alone.

The name alone — nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide — is enough to make most of us stop listening. 😂

But the basic idea is actually pretty fascinating.
NAD+ is a molecule already found in every living cell in our bodies. Our cells use it to help turn the food we eat into usable energy, but that’s only part of its job.

It’s also involved in things like DNA repair, cellular maintenance, signaling and how our cells respond to stress.

And here’s where aging enters the conversation.
NAD+ availability appears to decline with age in a number of tissues — while our cells still need it to do all of those important jobs.

THAT is why NAD+ has become such an interesting area of longevity research.

And it’s also why I’ve been talking about Vivix+.

Its approach isn’t simply about putting NAD+ into a capsule. Shaklee describes its strategy as helping the body CREATE + PROTECT + USE NAD+.

But I’m not squeezing that science lesson into this post. 😂
That’s next week’s Sunday Science.
For today, swipe through and tell me:

Had you heard of NAD+ before all of this longevity talk started — or is this completely new to you?

Science is still evolving around NAD+ supplementation and human aging, which is exactly why I think it’s worth understanding the biology behind the headlines.

This takes a lot of energy!

But lately i’ve been thinking about energy differently.

We usually think of energy as how we feel, whether we have enough to work out, keep up with our day, or do the things we love.

But before my muscles can do this, something has to happen at the CELLULAR level.

Our cells have to turn the nutrients we eat into energy they can actually use.

And there is a molecule that plays an important role in making that happen.

NAD+ 🧬

Until recently I haven’t thought about it. Not since my days in PA school.🤪

And yes, this is a big part of the reason I’m so excited about Vivix+.

But first, let’s understand the science.

Sunday Science Made Simple: What the heck is NAD+?
Coming Sunday.

Now I am excited by what I am learning about NAD+, cellular energy and how all of this may change how we age.

I’m not talking about magically stopping birthdays. 😂 I’m talking about supporting the biology underneath them.
Last week we talked about biological age vs. chronological age.
This week we’re going a little deeper—because aging isn’t happening in just one place.

Our cells are constantly producing energy, communicating, responding to nutrients, clearing waste and repairing damage. And scientists have identified 12 biological processes—the Hallmarks of Aging—that help us understand what changes as we get older.

But here’s the part I don’t want us to lose:

Longevity is bigger than any one pathway.
Our muscles affect our metabolism.
Our gut affects how we absorb nutrients.
Our cardiovascular system delivers oxygen.
Our nutrition helps provide what our cells need.
Our connective tissues affect how well we move.

We are one interconnected biology.

And that’s why the new Vivix+ has me so excited.
It builds on the polyphenol science of the original Vivix for cellular protection and adds a new focus on NAD+ and cellular energy—PROTECT + POWER.

Shaklee’s research also reports that the formulation impacts all 12 Hallmarks of Aging. That’s a big claim—and one I’m interested in understanding, not just repeating.

So we’re going to keep breaking down the science, one bite-sized piece at a time.

Because aging well isn’t about finding one magic answer.
It’s about supporting the whole person we’re taking into the years ahead. 💙

Next Sunday: What the heck is NAD+? 🧬

Okayyyyy, it’s here. 👀 I got early access to something brand new in the longevity space, and today is officially Day 1.

I’ve been learning the science behind this for the last few weeks, and let’s just say...I am VERY interested to see what I notice personally. I’m going to document the next several days here rather than tell you what I think is going to happen.

Starting point:
energy __6_/10
sleep _7__/10
workout stamina __7_/10
recovery _8__/10
and anything else I notice along the way.

Consider this my little longevity experiment. 😂

Can we actually influence how we age?

That question has intrigued me for the past four years.

It started with collagen and the realization that maybe aging wasn’t quite as predetermined as I’d always assumed.
Since then, I’ve gone down quite the rabbit hole. 😂 Strength. Muscle. Protein. Bone health. Inflammation. And now, the science of what’s actually happening inside our cells as we age.

There’s SO much fascinating research happening in healthy aging right now—but let’s face it, some of it can make your eyes glaze over pretty quickly. 🤯

So I’m starting something new:

🧬 Sunday Science Made Simple
One topic at a time. Bite-sized. Understandable. And most importantly—what it means for how we live.

Today we’re starting with chronological age vs. biological age.
And if you’re curious about yours, I have a quick Biological Age Assessment for you.
Comment AGE and I’ll send it your way.

Because we can’t change the year we were born...but we may have more influence over how we age than we realize. 💙
