It's official!
We signed our new lease today!
Hey Folks, It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for!
At long last, we here at the 757 Creative ReUse Center are THRILLED to announce our new location. Starting in September you’ll be able to visit us at 4210 Colley Avenue, Unit B. It's the large white building at the corner of W 42nd st and Colley Ave. Other tenants in the building include Jollity & Co (https://shopjollity.co/) and Movement is Medicine Physical Therapy (https://www.movementismedicinept.com/) . There are tons of other great businesses on North Colley, also known as the “EcoDistrict”. When you come visit us, you can also pop into Union Overall (https://unionoverall.com/) for some great vintage vibes, take a walk on the boardwalk at the Elizabeth River Project’s Ryan Resilience Lab (https://elizabethriver.org/ryan-resilience-lab/) , pick up some tasty local veggies from Westside Produce and Provisions (https://www.westsideproduceandprovisions.com/) , get a cup of coffee from Starving Artist Cafe (https://starvingartistcafe757.com/) or grab a beer and some pizza at Elation Brewery (https://elation.beer/) . All these places and more are within walking distance of our new shop. Here’s a little Q and A for y’all.
What is the last day at MacArthur Center?
The last day we’re open at MacArthur Center is scheduled to be June 27th, 2026. However, if we’re sold out of inventory before that time, we’ll be closing sooner. Our Fill-Your-Own-Container sale starts tomorrow, June 2nd and we’re hoping to get the vast majority of our inventory sold so we don’t have to move it. Make sure to visit soon, the good stuff is going to go quickly!
Do you need help moving?
Because of the size and scope of this move, we’re hiring professional movers. Folks who are already established volunteers may be asked to assist with packing and/or unpacking. After we get settled in our new location we’ll start monthly volunteer orientations again.
When are you moving?
We get the keys on August 1st. There’s some work that needs to be done before we can have all our fixtures delivered. Like anything we won’t really know how long that process will take until we start doing it, but we’re hoping for just a few weeks.
When will you start taking donations?
As soon as we have the fixtures delivered and the space is set up, we’ll start accepting donations on specific days before we’re open for shopping. This is perhaps the most important element to establish inventory for when we reopen. Now is a great time to start going through your attic, garage, basement, under the bed storage, or wherever you’ve squirreled away supplies that haven’t seen the light of day in years. Look through them to ensure that everything is clean and usable, then go ahead and box them up, slap a label on there , and then you’re ready to drop off as soon as we give the green light. We’ll send notification by newsletter and share on social media when the time comes.
When are you opening on Colley Avenue?
Our tentative Grand ReOpening is sometime in early September. We’ll keep sending out newsletters and updating our social media to keep y’all informed.
What’s the parking situation like?
The building has a large gravel parking lot that’s shared by all tenants, there is also FREE street parking on Colley Avenue. Don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of spots to park.
Can I get there using public transit?
You sure can! Bus 004 stops at 35th and Colley next to Taylor’s Do It Center, from there it’s about a 3-5 minute walk down Colley Ave. And bus 002 stops on Hampton at 37th, 41st and 45th, it’s about 3-5 minutes from all those stops as well.
What’s the new space like? What can I expect when I visit?
The new space is divided into two main zones. The retail zone is quite large and is located at the rear of the building. Park in the gravel lot and enter from the back door to visit the shop and drop your donations. It’s a few steps up to the door or use the ramp. We’ll still have the great vibes you’ve come to expect as well as a place for the kiddos to play or color and a lounge where you can meet-up and chat with friends. The front of the building, accessed from the Colley Avenue entrance will be home to our classrooms. One classroom will be a devoted sewing studio, housing all our sewing machines and sergers. A few other things we’re excited about; the entire space is ADA accessible, we have two customer restrooms, one of which has a changing table, and perhaps best of all, we control our own air conditioning!
When are classes starting again?
We’re aiming for October, but could be sooner if conditions are favorable.
Will you still have local artists boutiques?
Yes! We love featuring local artists' work in our store. Current artists have first dibs on spots in our new location. If we have additional spaces available, we’ll let y’all know how to apply.
What about memberships while you’re closed?
If you are a member who pays by the month, you have the option of pausing your membership, or you can continue supporting us during this time, knowing that we’re working hard to get up and running again. If you want to pause, you’ll find a link in your email receipt. You can also give us a call at 757-937-3821 and one of the managers can assist you over the phone.
That’s all for now, folks. We’re so excited to get this move done and welcome you all to our new home!
💚Beth
