🎉 BINGO Night for a Cause – May 17th! 🎉
Join us for a fun, meaningful evening as we raise funds for Our Open Umbrella’s Emergency Fund at our 3rd BINGO night!
This winter, we met an 18-year-old high school senior who found himself completely alone. His mother had passed away. He had aged out of the foster care system. He had no family to turn to, no place to stay, and no one to help.
Too young to stay in an adult shelter safely and denied rental assistance because he was working multiple jobs just to keep his car and phone, he was on the verge of living in his vehicle during one of the coldest months of the year.
Thanks to the Emergency Fund, Our Open Umbrella acted immediately, placing him in a local motel so he’d be safe and warm. Over the next few months, he worked closely with us, the high school, and other nonprofits — never giving up despite roadblocks at every turn. When a potential move to Job Corps in March was delayed indefinitely due to federal cuts, we kept supporting him, ensuring he was somewhere safe to finish high school.
Now, we’re proud to say he’s finishing up high school, preparing for a full-time job, and hoping to attend community college in the fall to become a nurse. And thanks to the efforts of many, he has found a safe, comfortable home with a kind couple who opened their doors — and their hearts — to him.
His courage and resilience are truly inspiring. But sadly, he won’t be the last student in our community to face a crisis like this. Join us for this special Bingo night to support OOU’s Emergency Fund, allowing us to continue to act quickly and provide immediate support, ensuring families and students get what they need when they need it most.
