Green River Fossil Company is a pioneer in the use of fossil stone for home design and museum-quality fossil art for those with discerning tastes. Each stone is unearthed in our private quarry in southwestern Wyoming, the site of a 50 million-year-old lakebed, considered to be one of the world's premier sites for discovering fossils. In the quarry, our geologist and his expert crew remove stone, l

ayer by layer, in search of ancient fossil treasures. Once found, our team of paleontologists and craftsmen spend hour upon hour painstakingly chipping away the stone that covers the fossils, revealing their most intricate details, and creating beautiful works of natural art. Each fossil mural or sculpture is a snapshot in time, the perfectly preserved fossils offer a unique window into the past.

A large fossil backsplash tile containing a 22" Phareodus encaustus along with four Knightia eocaena and a Cockerellites liops. This unique backsplash tile combines two fossil preparation techniques. The large Phareodus has been prepared in shallow relief, showing fantastic scale and bone detail, while the smaller surrounding fossil fish are prepared in a smooth honed finish. The surrounding limestone is also honed to a smooth flat finish. The stone is then sealed to protect it from stains. The smaller field tiles around the large center tile are made from travertine. Kintsugi (Japanese: 金継ぎ, lit. 'golden joinery') is an ancient art that originated in 15th-century Japan, embracing and celebrating imperfections by using gold, silver, or platinum to mend breakages. Inspired by Kintsugi as both an art form and philosophy, these fossil murals engage directly with the natural fractures in fossilized limestone layers from the Green River Formation. The fractures in the stone are emphasized with 24-karat gold leaf that cascades along the richly textured limestone, reflecting our continued exploration of the interaction between art and nature and creating a deeper human connection to the natural beauty of fossils. Each panel measures 18 inches x 18 inches x 1-1/4 inches, quarried from 'Mosaic Lake' stone, a dark limestone layer unique to our fossil quarry.

A rare Find! This fossil mural measures 11 inches tall by 23 inches wide. It contains an 18-1/4 inch Diplomystus dentatus, consuming a 6-1/2 inch Priscacara serrata, a remarkable representation of a predation event known as an “aspiration”, in which both fish ultimately met their demise, as the smaller fish remaind suck in the mouth of the larger fish. This piece is one of the most detailed aspirations we have seen. Dating back to the Early Eocene, the fossil was found in our private quarry, part of the Green River Formation of Southwestern Wyoming, showcasing the incredible preservation of life and death.

A large fossil fish triptych measuring 5 feet tall x 9 feet wide. This large fossil triptych was quarried from our Fossil Lake stone layer. It contains a large Notogonus oculus, three large and three small Diplomystus dentatus, a Mioplosus labacoides, a small Phareodus te**is, four Cockerellites liops, and eight Knightia eocaena. The stone has wonderful tan and beige colors. The fossils date to the Early Eocene, 50-million-years-old. A 50-million-year-old fossil palm with six fish, discovered in the Green River Formation of southwestern Wyoming. This unique fossil mural measures 74 inches tall x 48 inches wide x 3 inches deep. It contains a 69-inch fossil palm (Sabalites sp.) with an 11-inch Diplomystus dentatus, and five Knightia eocaena ranging in size from 4-3/4 inches to 6-1/4 inches. A fossil mural quarried from the "Mosaic Lake II" stone layer in our Wyoming fossil quarry. This rare dark limestone layer yields remarkable fossils offering exceptional detail. This mural measures 25 inches tall by 37 inches wide. The fossils include a 12-1/2 inch Mioplosus labracoides, an 8-1/2 inch Priscacara serrata, and a 5-1/4 inch Diplomystus dentatus. All are framed within this highly textured, dark stone matrix. It has been framed in a handmade Wenge wood frame, backed with wood, and a two-part French cleat for easy hanging. A fossil stone diptych containing large and small fossil fish. This recently completed fossil diptych measures 68 inches tall by 68 inches wide by 1-1/4 inches deep. The fossils include a large and small Diplomystus dentatus, a Mioplosus labracoides, two Cockerellites liops, and fifteen Knightia eocaena. The stone is our "Fossil Lake Classic" layer, showing a range of subtle beige colors and layered textures. The stone was found in our private fossil quarry, part of the Green River Formation of southwestern Wyoming. The fossils date to the Early Eocene. A 50-million-year-old fossil palm flower from the Green River Formation of Southwestern Wyoming. The framed mural measures 100 inches tall x 55 inches wide. The fossils include the 86" palm flower along with a 5-3/4 inch Cockerellites liops, and three Knightia eocaena in sizes from 4-1/2 inches to 6 inches. The fossils include a large Diplomystus dentatus, a Priscacara serrata, a Phareodus te**is, and six Knightia eocaena. The mural measures 47-3/4 inches tall x 71 inches wide. Found in our private quarry, part of the Green River Formation of Southwestern Wyoming. It dates to the Early Eocene, 50 million years old.
