Q. Which is better for security lighting: more LEDs or more watts?

A. Neither number alone tells you how well a security light will perform.

LED count and wattage describe components and power consumption, not the useful illumination delivered to the target. Performance also depends on beam angle, optics, LED efficiency, wavelength, thermal management, and how evenly the light is directed across the area or camera’s field of view.

A well-designed, lower-wattage IR or white-light illuminator can outperform a higher-wattage unit that wastes energy or distributes light poorly.
