Beginner’s Spinning
August 5, 2nd session is August 19
For those that have ever had an inkling to create their own yarn, this is for you! In this 2-session workshop, you will learn the importance of drafting and tension when spinning on a wheel. We will teach you how to create a good single strand yarn that we can then come back and ply. We will talk about the different fibers you can spin from and the differences between roving, top and batts.
During the 2 weeks between our sessions, you will have the opportunity to come in to Long Tail Knits and finish spinning any fiber that you were not able to complete during the first session so we can work on plying and any other techniques during the 2nd session. Kris will be available to help if you are struggling between sessions.
Once you have taken our beginners spinning there are a wide variety of workshops to continue building your skills. Such as plying, core spinning, drafting and specialty how-to techniques.
The use of one of our spinning wheels is offered to those students who do not currently own a wheel. We feel this is the best way to see if you truly enjoy the process before purchasing a wheel.
