I’m often popping into Used-a-Bit to see what’s new, see what’s happening. Fermin, Used-a-Bit’s amazing Manager, flips the layout of the stores often so you’re never really sure what you’ll see when you stop in. As a FiftyNorth employee and supporter of their Facebook and eBay sites, I love finding the ‘brand new finds’! Today, it’s Anna. Who doesn’t love Anna?!? Queen Anna is one of the protagonists of the Frozen franchise. She is the second-born daughter of King Agnarr and Queen Iduna, the younger sister of Elsa the Snow Queen, and the contemporary ruler of Arendelle. During their childhood, an accident involving Elsa's magic created a rift between the two sisters, leaving Anna devoid of love for many years. Despite this, Anna remained big-hearted and optimistic, albeit socially awkward.

Catherine has been (and continues to be) amazing!!!

“They wanted me to cover furniture!!!” 😱🛋️

The Used‑A‑Bit Shoppe in Riverwalk Mall is a Northfield treasure run by a crew of FiftyNorth volunteers who love giving good stuff a new life. We’re also lucky to have Carleton work-study students, like Catherine, as part of our team!

When she started nearly 4 years ago, Catherine had only ever worked with people her own age. But on her first day, Catherine met Bev, Marie, and Dolores, extraordinary women with decades of life experience. “I was nervous, trying to learn everything and make sure I did a good job.”

That night, she got a text: “Can you cover furniture by yourself tomorrow?”

Cover… what?
Sit at the register?
Guard a couch?

Catherine had no idea what to expect, but she bravely showed up. Thankfully, “covering furniture” meant minding the furniture side of the shop. 😮‍💨 Today, Furniture is one of her favorite places.

Catherine grew from a shy student into a self-confident graduate with sharp communication skills and an extended family from Used-a-Bit who love her. 💙💜

Her friends at Carleton were jealous of her amazing workstudy job. Every year when Catherine could have switched to another job, she didn’t. She never even looked.

“Everyone who works here is what kept me coming back,” she says. “It’s been such a unique experience. I wouldn’t have traded it for anything.”

Catherine is now a community volunteer. Stop by and say “hello.” 👋 Whether she’s in furniture, at the cash register, or in the aisles, we guarantee she’s got it covered! (pun intended...)👍

Used-a-Bit donation hours are being extended. You may now donate Tuesdays-Thursdays from 10 am-4 pm, Fridays 10 am-2 pm, and Saturdays 10 am-noon. We’d love to extend our hours on Saturdays, but we need more volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering on Saturdays, please pick up an application at the cashier station.

Desk and lamps and tables - oh my! The furniture store has something for everyone. The manager is in a good mood today, so stop in at 640 Water Street. If you find something you like, ask for the manager and you may get a discount!

Used-A-Bit Shoppe is now accepting fall and holiday decor all year round. We are also always happy to receive your donations of household items, furniture, jewelry, and antiques. Donation hours are Tuesdays-Fridays, 10 am-2 pm, and Saturdays, 10 am- noon at 624 Water St S.
