We were in the process of getting new furniture for our combined living and dining rooms. Our living room was "almost done" and I had bought a Pottery Barn buffet in the dining room I loved, but was unhappy with any dining table options PB or other stores had. There was always "one thing" I couldn't change. I decided to look into having a table built and found Ken and Apple Ridge Amish Furniture only a few miles from me. He had catalogs full of beautiful, solid wood tables of any type and finish and wood/stain samples. Specifically, I wanted leaves able to self-store and fit in the middle of the table (as opposed to breadboard leaves on the ends which look unbalanced unless you use both) because of the length of my dining room. The prices were comparable, but I believe the quality, much better. I was able to select type of wood, finish, edge and corner style, quantity and width of leaves, etc. I ended up ordering a double pedestal table with two 18 inch leaves and chairs. I still needed a sofa table for the living room. Ken was able to use a different Amish company (I wanted a metal base to match my leather ottoman "coffee table") but still have the same wood and color finish on the top to tie in the dining table. Ken also ensured both pieces would be shipped together to have only one delivery fee and delivery window. The dining table/chairs and sofa table were delivered on time- in the 6-8 week window. Ken was at the delivery as well to make sure everything went smoothly. We have used the dining table probably a dozen times in less than four months. It was a priority to feel comfortable having my children (ages 7, 5 and 3) plus nieces/nephews and friends' kids be able to eat at it with us. It still looks great and I don't worry about spills/stains. Ken also made a large window seat cushion. My husband has commented several times how thick and comfortable it is and my three young children use it often to read/look through books. I have found stains already, but the high quality sunbrella fabric is easy to clean and the cushion still looks brand new 6 months later. I think it will hold up in a south facing bay window for many years. I'm very happy with everything and would certainly use Apple Ridge Amish Furniture again.
