Came across this modular outdoor tile system and immediately started mentally redesigning every terrace and backyard I have ever worked on. Grass, composite wood, porcelain stone, all on one interlocking base. Mix them, zone them, create patterns, define spaces without walls. A rooftop or backyard can have just as much design intention as your living room. You just have to be willing to think about it that way.

Still thinking about this chandelier from ICFF. It is by Simone Ferkul Projects and it looks like someone froze a moment of pure chaos and made it beautiful. Black cords going every direction, frosted globe bulbs sitting at the end of each one like little moons. No symmetry, no rules, just intention. This is what I want more of in residential design. Lighting that feels alive. If you have a double height space, a stairwell, or a dining room with real ceiling height, this is the kind of piece that changes the whole personality of the room. Do not save the drama for the sofa. Put it overhead.

Marcel Breuer would have understood this chair immediately. The Bauhaus DNA is right there in the steel frame and the exposed bolts, that same belief that furniture should show you exactly how it works and never pretend otherwise. This piece at ICFF 2026 carries that legacy forward without copying it. Harder, more raw, sitting on a sculptural burgundy rug like it owns the whole room. Industrial and poetic at the same time. That combination never gets old.

ICFF 2026 did not disappoint. There were hundreds of exhibitors but this stopped me cold. Fully 3D printed furniture by Decibel Made. That color, that form, those layers of resin catching the light from underneath. It looks like frozen water. What I love most about this as a designer is that 3D printing is finally producing pieces with real soul, not just novelty. This is craft through technology and I think we are just at the beginning of what is possible. Worth following if you care about where furniture design is headed. decibelmade.com

Lighting is the one thing most people get wrong in a renovation. They spend everything on the sofa, the floors, the kitchen, and then grab whatever lamp is on sale. Please do not do that. Light shapes how a room feels at night, and that is when you actually live in it. This alabaster piece with that black base, this is the kind of lamp you keep for twenty years. Natural stone, honest materials, timeless shape. Worth every penny.

Some days this job is spreadsheets and site visits and client calls. And then some days you turn a corner and find something like this waiting for you. Dark seat, soft grey back, that wood frame carved like it has somewhere important to be. Those are the days that remind me why I never wanted to do anything else. Design is not what I do. It is how I see the world.

White on white until it isn't. The island was the moment in this Venus Project kitchen. A wire-brushed dark oak base grounded the whole space and gave the Calacatta quartz somewhere interesting to land. That tension between light and dark is what makes a kitchen feel designed and not just decorated.
