This past weekend I visited Bannister Wines tasting room in Geyserville. It was originally an old bank and they use that to set the tone for the space today. Walking inside the old bank vault I discovered this dramatic and moody piece of art by Christina Hobbs. I appreciate the layered textural development of the piece. This is just one of her pieces currently being featured by the winery. IMHO, the artwork and wine are both winners!

This retail space resembles a museum gallery. Owner and artist Diane Rudsten, formerly of “Zaragoza,” has reopened a new art gallery in the same location on Sir Francis Drake. Here are her words about her vision:

This week I went to the final film showing at Summerfield Theater. This small 5-screen movie theater has unfortunately closed, I designed the interiors. I enjoyed the challenge of combining Hollywood glamour with a
bit of “at home” comfort as this was a favorite of the locals in Santa Rosa.

On closing day, I attended the last showing. It was incredibly sad to stand there with the owners and staff, who were heartbroken; they were like family to each other. Loyal customers attended as well and shared their heartfelt stories.

This neighborhood movie theater had a true feeling of nostalgia. And, when folks entered it was another world waiting for them just beyond the doors.
More than a movie house, it was part of the fabric of our community and I believe that is why I always enjoyed designing them.

Go view your next film at your local theater. It’s an experience not to be missed!
