Hello, I’m Candy Scott, founder and Principal Designer of MOOD | Design + Build and MOOD | The Shoppe.
I’ve been building MOOD for about 13 years and working in the interior design industry for nearly 25.
Recently, I found myself looking through photos over the years. Beyond noticing how much I’ve changed (especially my hair) it made me think about how much the business has changed too.
As an interior designer, I started by taking on small projects one at a time—figuring things out, making mistakes, and learning an incredible amount along the way. Not just about design, but about people: how they live, what they value, what makes a house feel like home, and how deeply personal the process of creating one can be.
I also learned that great design is never created by one person. It takes talented colleagues, craftspeople, architects, vendors, and partners who care just as much as you do. Finding those people has become one of the most important parts of what we do.
Today, the challenge looks different. I’m learning how to grow and lead a team, build better systems, and pass along what 25 years of experience has taught me.
It’s challenging. It’s humbling. And it’s also creating room for me to do some things I’ve wanted to do for a long time—like actually sit down and write this caption.
And that feels particularly important right now.
We’re living in a world where AI can create an image, write a paragraph, or make almost anything look convincing. I think it’s an extraordinary tool, and one that will continue changing how all of us work. But I also think it makes the human part of business more important, not less.
There are still real people behind the work. People listening. Designing. Helping. Solving problems. Caring about whether something turns out well.
So consider this a little reintroduction.
I’m still here, very much behind the work—and I’d like to show up here a little more often, sharing not only the beautiful finished spaces, but some of the thinking, people, decisions and stories that go into creating them.
Thanks for following along. I look forward to more conversations about beautiful spaces—and everything it takes to bring them to life.
