If all goes as planned and a little help from the weather gods, your Limelight Hydrangeas will turn a rosy color. This particular variety I have is Limelight Prime. The color change has nothing to do with the soil, instead it's more sun and climate, and to know when to cut. Some Limelights in late hot summers go from cream to brown (I have a few that do this too). Choose a cultivar that will be more dependable in changing to pink, like the Prime, Quick Fire, or Vanilla Strawberry. I have been experimenting with all types of hydrangeas in my garden for 20 years, pulling out many, relocating, or just getting rid of. They can sure get the best of you, but the rewards of getting it right are well worth the work.

Did you know, French alter pieces like these would have stood on the altar itself, on a reredos/gradine (the stepped structure immediately behind the altar), or on a side/Marian altar. The Lillies are strongly associated with purity and the Virgin Mary, and floral motifs such as roses, grape leaves and wheat were frequently incorporated into 19th- and early-20th-century French church furnishings. I didn't find this pair in France but I sure travelled a ways to acquire these beauties.

If you're on the fence about adding a permanent built-in bench to your shower renno, think about the pros and cons carefully. Despite its lure of being a luxury, I know many homeowners who have regretted their built-in bench. Instead consider a portable stool as it may be a more thoughtful choice for your shower size and lifestyle -

• It doesn't take up a permanent footprint.

• It can be moved around in the shower to where it's needed.

• It can be brought in and out of the shower if needed for convalescing

• It's not a surface that collects personal products and becomes a challenge to keep clean.

Comparison steals joy when someone else’s life becomes the measuring stick for your own. I can be genuinely delighted with my house, career, appearance, possessions, creative work—or almost anything—until I see somebody else’s supposedly “better” version. My reality didn’t deteriorate. My reference point changed.

Sometimes protecting joy isn’t about acquiring something better; it’s about recognizing when you’ve unnecessarily moved the goalposts.
