Unfortunately, "The Romantic Legacy" Little Journeys presentation that I was scheduled to do tomorrow, 8-5-2026, for the Roycrofters At Large Association (RALA) at The Chapel on the Roycroft Campus has been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused, and plan to reschedule the event. We will keep you updated here on the new schedule.

Last week, ARTS Oil City screened a short film of artist interviews which talks about the place we live, and why we love living here and working here. The screening was the unofficial launch of Oil City’s Oil Heritage Festival, and the night was really magical — full of enthusiasm for our town, our artists, and for the contribution the arts are making to our region! The screening was followed by an inspiring artist panel Q & A. For me, it was heartening to hear my compatriot artists [Marcy Hall Art, The Fallen Shoppe, Kelsey May Photography, Rafi And Klee Studios, and Jamie Bastello] reflect on how they chase their divine spark, and translate the silent whisper into their work! All of this was encapsulated by the recurring theme of how much we love where we live! If you are an artist, visual, performing, or otherwise — or an art enthusiast, we would love for you to come and join our distinctive and extraordinary community in Oil City, PA — to live, or just to visit and experience what is happening here. I am the fifth artist in the video — but I encourage you to watch the entire presentation, and hear the passionate words and fascinating stories of all of these remarkable people…

The "Artists Watch Party" was truly tremendous last night! Such great attendance, such great engagement, such great enthusiasm! People were really engaged, and I was honored to be up on the stage with fellow Oil City artists! Thank you everyone who put forth effort to make this happen, and for participating by attending!

If you didn't make it to East Aurora last weekend for the Roycroft Artisans Summer Arts Festival, here's a glimpse into our booth. We had a great weekend visiting with our amazing fellow Roycroft artists and craftspeople, meeting new artists who were juried into the show, seeing long time clients and supporters, and meeting many new people who admired CJ's work!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to visit the show, spend time in our booth talking to us, asking questions about the work, and generally supporting the arts. We appreciate you!

We're back from the Roycrofters At Large Association (RALA) Summer Arts Festival and the van is unloaded! Today, Barbara is focused on getting all of the administrative follow-up from the show completed.

We'd like to give a big shout out to our summer intern, Tom, who was a big help in puzzling the van together for our loadup last week and super helpful in the unload yesterday.

Doing a show is much more than what you see when you walk through and enjoy all of the beautiful work on display! Prep starts long before you see us and ends in exhaustion after teardown, return drive to the studio, unload and follow-up.

But, it's all worth it when we see your smiling faces and you spend time engaging with us and our work!

REMINDER: The Roycroft Summer Festival is this weekend, June 27th & 28th at the Classic Rink, 41 Riley St, East Aurora, NY 14052. The Classic Rink is awesome, because rain or shine, its massive roof protects you from the rain, and shades you from the sun! The partial walls protect from the wind too! Come visit, we'd love to see you!!

A cottage waits beside the pond, its windows catching the sun's pale light. Snow arrives before winter has fully spoken. Along the gorge, a lone tree bends with the wind, keeping watch above the blue river below.

C.J. Hurley’s work carries us into those quiet thresholds of the landscape, where the ordinary world feels briefly touched by story. His cottages, streams, trees, and hillsides suggest places remembered rather than merely seen: a refuge beyond the bend, a path through fresh snow, a house one might find only by wandering slowly enough.
