The art of high-gloss wood.

There is something extraordinary about burlwood. The movement, the depth, the intricate patterns created entirely by nature. And when paired with a beautifully executed high-gloss finish, the wood itself becomes the art.

A look back at this custom burlwood commission and a little inspiration for what's possible next.

Currently available to customize: This incredible oversized burlwood dining/conference table. Offered in your choice of stain color and a deep, mirror-like high-gloss finish designed to celebrate every inch of its natural character.

A couple of years ago, I showed this client some of my work. She looked at it, then pulled up the work of another furniture artist and showed it to me.

High gloss. Bold. Completely different from what I was doing at the time. I wasn’t offended. I was intrigued.

I remember looking at it and thinking: I need to know how to do THAT.

Not copy or compete with it. I wanted to learn the skill well enough to eventually take it somewhere of my own.

So I did.

Learning high gloss completely changed the trajectory of my work. And somewhere along the way, it gave me the confidence to stop asking whether an idea was too much and start asking whether I could actually pull it off.

This chair is the full-circle version of that story.

It’s not really about the chair.

It’s about what happens when something shows you there’s another level—and you decide to go get it.

More of this.

I read yesterday... Everyone needs a color that misbehaves a little. This one is perfectly spicy & bold.

Unexpected & irreverent.

This is Modern Vintage.

Two years ago tonight, I worked my last event at The Skirvin Hilton Oklahoma City.

Luxury weddings.
Corporate galas.
Twelve-hour days in heels.
Managing details no one else even noticed.

And honestly… I was good at it.

There’s a certain kind of pressure that comes with high-end events. You learn how to create atmosphere. Emotion. Experience. You learn timing, presentation, refinement, problem solving, composure.

What I didn’t know then was that those same skills would follow me into an entirely different life.

Two years ago, I walked away from stability and titles and stepped fully into building Etz Modern Vintage.

No guarantees.
No roadmap.
Just vision, instinct, and a garage full of furniture.

Since then, there have been moments of exhaustion, doubt, risk, growth, creativity, reinvention… and moments where I’ve stood back and realized:

I’m not just refinishing furniture.

I’m building a life that actually looks like me.

That’s the real success story.
