Fresh flower tip number 2: You know when you pick up fresh flowers from the florist and they hand you a pack of floral preservative? Use it, but make sure you use it properly. Follow the directions on the packet ensuring to mix proper amounts of water with the preservative. Using cut flower preservative helps to maximize the vase life and the enjoyment of your flowers by fighting off harmful bacteria. If you use too much this can actually do harm to the flowers by burning them, and if you use too little it will not be able to effectively kill the bacteria and ultimately does nothing for your flowers. So remember using the flower preservative properly by following the directions equals maximum vase life.

Fresh flower tip number 1: When you get your flowers home from the florist it is a must that you give them a fresh new cut (about and inch off of the bottom) with a sharp knife prior to placing them into a water filled container. This will ensure that you can enjoy your fresh blooms for longer. Note: do not use pruners or scissors as this will crush the stems and prevent the uptake of water and nutrients that are essential for longer lasting cut flowers.
