Why does Talalay latex have all those holes?

They’re actually part of how it’s made. During the Talalay process, liquid latex is poured into a mold containing rows of pins. Those pins help transfer heat through the latex as it cures, leaving behind the distinctive pattern you see in the finished material.

As an added benefit, those openings also allow air to move through the latex — one reason Talalay is known for being a breathable mattress material.

Just one of those things you might never think to ask about a mattress. But around here, we think the details are worth knowing.

Before a mattress can be hand tufted, someone has to decide exactly where every tuft will go.

Around the workshop, this tool has earned the nickname “the ninja stick.” This simple tool helps our craftsmen position them evenly across the mattress before the needle ever goes through.

It’s one of those little steps most people will never see in a finished mattress—but it helps make sure the finished work is clean, consistent and properly constructed.

It’s a small detail, but an important one.

When we hand tuft one of our traditional innerspring mattresses, the needle has to pass through layer after layer of material. As the work continues, its point can begin to dull — sometimes requiring it to be sharpened several times while making a single mattress.

So the craftsman stops. Sharpens the needle. And keeps going.

It’s one of those little parts of making a mattress by hand that you’d probably never see in the finished product. But it’s part of the process nonetheless.

Our innerspring mattresses are built with generous layers of cotton, placed and worked by hand to create the comfort and support we’re looking for.

It’s a material mattress makers have relied on for generations — breathable, durable and simple. And because every mattress we make is built here in our Oklahoma City factory, our craftsmen can adjust those layers as the mattress takes shape.

No conveyor belt. No mattress arriving in a box.
