This Dietz Vesta was a basket case, but it had a unique history and was worth a bit of restoration. The lantern is stamped for use at the Reading Railroad Philadelphia repair yard. The bale has no thumb notch and the hanger looks to be factory installed. I guess that this lantern was used for Rule 26.
Rule 26. A blue signal, displayed at one or both ends of an engine, car, or train, indicates that workmen are under or about it; when thus protected it must not be coupled to or moved. Each class of workmen will display the blue signals and the same workmen alone are authorized to remove them. Other equipment must not be placed on the same track so as to intercept the view of the blue signals, without first notifying the workmen.

Embury No. 25 "Luck-E-Light" The Interstate Commerce Commission's safety regulations for the commercial trucking industry took effect on July 1, 1937. This required all trucks to carry torches, flares, and lanterns for safety. Embury met the challenge with its "Luck-E-Lite". The Luck-E-Lite No.25 is a dead flame lantern that was made between 1937 to 1952. It is a truck/construction equipment lantern that would be mounted on the side as running lights. This one has seen some use. However, it is rust free and fully functional, and it has the original "E" marked globe. The brace to the left of the fill cap needs re-soldering. $45
