Kaivinai Design

Kaivinai Design Crafting handmade goods since 2021. Hi there! We’re Kaivinai Design, and we’ve been crafting handmade goods here in Albuquerque since 2021. I even sometimes knit!

Since I was young, I have spent many years of my life living abroad and traveling to many countries. I have been exposed to different languages, traditions, and ways of life, and have learned to appreciate the diversity and richness of different cultures. Since marrying my husband, who is from South India, our family has grown to include members from both of our cultural backgrounds, which has all

owed us to celebrate and share the traditions and values of each culture with our children. In Tamil, "kaivinai" is a word that means “handmade,” "creativity," or "innovation." It is often used to refer to the ability to come up with new and original ideas, or to create something in a unique or imaginative way. In a broader sense, "kaivinai" can also refer to the ability to think outside the box and approach problems in a creative and innovative way. We believe in the beauty of creating goods by hand, even though there may be slight variations or differences. The result is that each and every item is unique. Buying handmade means you are supporting sustainable and greener business practices, since there is no factory or large production (it’s all made in my home office!) and these products do not travel hundreds or thousands of miles to get to you. I started this business because I love to make things, and with the encouragement of my family, I’ve turned my hobby into a business. In addition to embroidery patterns, I make jewelry, custom mugs, and wall decor. As a mom of two, crafting is my “happy place.” I’m looking forward to expanding my office space in the next two years so that I can partner up with more small businesses like ChocGlitz & Cream. I’d like to personally invite you to visit my shop www.etsy.com/shop/KaivinaiDesign and follow me on Instagram to see my latest creations. Thank you for supporting my small business!

Made some dried flower silhouette art with my daughter today. We decided on cats.

We used pressed and dried flowers from my stash and arranged them inside simple cat silhouettes, then set them aside to dry flat so we can frame them later.

I like doing projects like this with her because it’s slow, inexpensive, uses what we already have, and it’s time together instead of buying more stuff we don’t need.

Mine is finished, hers is still in progress. When they’re both dry we’re going to hang the two cats next to each other on the wall.

Made a new iron-on embroidery transfer. Snake, flowers, and the word RESIST right across the middle.

I printed it with heat transfer ink, and mirrored it so it transfers correctly onto fabric when you iron it on. The video shows the whole transfer process.

I like making things people can stitch onto their clothes, bags, and jackets so the things we wear can actually say what we believe instead of just advertising brands.

This one would look really good stitched in bold colors or just simple linework.

Transfer is in the shop if you want to stitch your own:

Quick 3" patch from one of my latest transfers.

Ironed onto felt, stitched with basic back stitch, then ran the edge through my overlock. Definitely not perfect, but still works. Still cute.

Kind of into how scrappy it feels.

I’ve been adding some new embroidery designs to my Etsy shop and these three feel especially meaningful right now.

“Joy is an act of resistance.”
“Love expands when I tend to it gently.”
And one for when your crafting mood leans a little more… witchy and rebellious: "Hex Your Local ICE Agent"

All three designs are available as iron-on embroidery transfers or instant digital downloads, so you can either have the transfer mailed to you or download and start stitching right away. They’re designed to be beginner-friendly (simply stitch over the lines!) and easy to customize with your own thread colors and style.

I love seeing how people bring these designs to life. Embroidery can be comfort, creativity, protest, or a little bit of all three stitched together.

You can find them in my Etsy shop here:

What if you could sit down with a memory… and slowly stitch it back to life?

This listing turns your favorite photo into fabric. A real, tactile starting point. Something you hold in your hands.

Send me a photo that means something to you. A person. A pet. A house. A moment.
We’ll collaborate on the crop so it feels just right. Then I print it onto special fade-resistant fabric, ready for you to stitch over, around, and through.

And this is where it gets magical.

You can keep it soft and subtle…
Or you can take a black-and-white image and explode it with color.

Add pink cheeks to your grandmother.
Stitch wildflowers into an empty field.
Outline a groom's jacket in gold thread.
Turn a quiet portrait into something whimsical and alive.

Embroidery floss becomes your paintbrush. The photo becomes your canvas.

Choose just the printed fabric if you already have supplies, or get the full kit with hoop, needle, guide, and backing so you can open it and begin right away.

This is more than a craft.
It’s memory-keeping, storytelling, slow art.

If you’ve been wanting a project that feels meaningful, this is it.
Send me your photo and let’s turn it into something you’ll treasure forever. 🧵✨

📣 Kaivinai Design will be closed Friday, January 30.

I’m joining the national walkout in solidarity with immigrant communities, workers, and all who are resisting the rise of fascism and violence in our systems. Small businesses can and should take a stand.

🖤 No orders will be processed Friday.
🖤 The shop will reopen Saturday morning.
🖤 If you need an iron-on urgently for protest art, reach out by message ASAP.

I choose justice, care, and community over silence and complicity.

Thanks for your support, always. Stay loud. Stay kind.
