Woohoo! Spring is truly upon us!

Save the Date!

Our Spring 2025 Opening Day is Saturday, May 3rd!

Start the growing season off right by joining us at our greenhouse location to shop the largest selection of native perennial wildflowers and grasses in Nebraska, grown locally and pesticide-free right here in Lincoln!

Or if you'd rather shop for plants from the comfort of your own home, prior to our greenhouse being open to the public on May 3rd, our semi-annual limited-time online ordering period will begin on April 26th where you can select plants for pick-up in Lincoln on opening day or for local delivery throughout Lincoln, Omaha, and the surrounding areas the following week.

Important Dates and Information

Tuesday, April 22 - Release of updated plant availability list and important information and instructions regarding online ordering and pick-up/delivery options.

**Saturday, April 26, 9:00 AM - Website goes live to allow online orders.

Tuesday, April 29, 11:59 PM - Online ordering period closes for Spring 2025.

**Saturday, May 3, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM - Online order pick-up at greenhouse and greenhouse open to the public for in-person shopping, rain or shine!

May 5–9 - Tentatively scheduled delivery dates.

Saturdays through June 14 - Greenhouse open to the public for in-person shopping (closed May 24 in observance of Memorial Day).

It’s about that time again...to let you know that it is NOT time to cut back your perennial gardens yet.

Now that we’ve survived the latest polar vortex, the sun is shining bright, and all the snow has quickly melted, you may be tempted to get out and do some garden clean-up this week and upcoming weekend, but don’t be fooled! Even though it *seems* like Spring has sprung, remember that this is Nebraska and the weather can and does turn on a dime!

You may have heard the general rule of thumb that it is safe to cut back your gardens (which ideally were kept intact since last Fall) once the day temperatures reach a steady 50 degrees F. While we're definitely going to be a lot warmer than that this week and through next weekend, the second half of the rule also requires that the threat of a hard freeze has completely passed. The average last freeze in Lincoln and Omaha generally occurs sometime during the last week of April, so we still have the potential for a lot more Winter weather, and keeping those dead sticks, stems, and leaves around just a little while longer is imperative to ensure that all of the native insects and other critters utilizing those materials for shelter still have access to them when the temperature, and likely more snow, inevitably falls again.

So please, we ask that you resist the urge to clean up your gardens this time of year and wait until at least mid-, if not late-April. The pollinators will thank you!

And as always, when it does come time to cut everything down for the year, remember to try and leave approximately 12-18 inches of the dead stalks standing so that our many species of stem-nesting bees can utilize them to successfully rear their offspring, both this season and next.
