We’re choosing to move forward as an AI-free small business.
Since the very beginning of Stanley Ave, our designs have always been created by us. Every label, every color combination, every little detail has been something we’ve personally spent time creating.
We do use Canva Pro. It’s a design platform we’ve loved and used for years. But we design our labels ourselves. And that’s something we’re incredibly proud of.
But we also want to be completely transparent.
Being a small business, we don’t really have the funds to hire a product photographer, it just isn’t financially feasible for us at this point in time.
In the past, we HAVE used AI tools to help remove backgrounds and sharpen some of our product photography. At the time, it felt like a simple way to make our photos look more professional. But as we’ve taken the time to educate ourselves more about AI, we’ve started reconsidering how we want to use it within our business.
And here’s the thing: It’s okay to learn something new and decide to do things differently.
We’re choosing to move back toward raw, authentic product photography. Real products, photographed by us, without relying on AI to perfect every little detail.
So, if you start noticing some changes in our photos or the way we present our products, just know that we’re trying to do better. We’re learning, growing, and making more intentional choices about the business we’re building.
The biggest part of starting Stanley Ave was allowing myself to create. And we don’t want to lose that part of what makes this business so special to us.
This update is about being honest about where we’ve been, what we’ve learned, and where we want to go.
Small businesses are allowed to grow. They’re allowed to learn. And they’re allowed to change.

Happy 4th birthday to one of our babies, Stanley Ave! 🥹🎂🖤

FOUR YEARS. It’s honestly crazy to look back and see just how far we’ve come.

The labels have changed. The products have evolved. We’ve learned, grown, messed up, tried again, and poured so much love into this little business over the last four years.

But the best part? You guys.

We’ve gained some of the most amazing customers—many of you have become some of our biggest supporters. You’ve supported us through new launches, changes, busy seasons, and even the times when life happened and we needed to step away. And every single time we came back, you welcomed Stanley Ave back with so much love. We will never stop being grateful for that.

And a little fun fact: every Stanley Ave label and design is created by me! We don’t use AI to generate our designs. I use Canva Pro, my own creativity, and probably way too much time moving things around by half an inch until they feel just right. 😂

Watching our branding evolve alongside our business has been one of my favorite parts of this journey.

We are getting back to regular schedule and finishing up orders today. But we had to reminisce on taking our kids to their first concert last week in Cincinnati. We had to make sure they experienced the long road trips to shows 😅Our youngest is the biggest Hayley Williams fan 🥹 Third slide is his reaction to seeing her for the first time 😭

“I can get a candle way cheaper at a big box store.”

Good. They should be cheap. 🤎

Because we’re not trying to make the cheapest candle possible.

At Stanley Ave, we’re trying to make a candle we actually feel good about burning in our own home.

That means 100% soy wax instead of choosing a wax simply because it’s the cheapest option. It means being intentional about the fragrance oils we use. It means hand-pouring in small batches, testing our wicks and fragrance loads, and actually knowing what goes into the candle we’re handing to you.

Could we make different choices to get our prices lower? Probably.

But “how cheap can we make this?” has never been the goal.

We wanted a cleaner, more intentional candle. One that smells incredible, burns beautifully, and is made with ingredients we feel good about using around our own family.

And then there’s the part you can’t really compare to a big box shelf.

We pour it.
We wick it.
We label it.
We package it.
We ship it.

There are real people behind every single Stanley Ave candle.

So yes, you can absolutely walk into a big box store and find a candle for less.

But price alone doesn’t tell you what you’re bringing into your home.

We’ll keep choosing 100% soy wax.
We’ll keep being picky about our ingredients.
We’ll keep pouring in small batches.
