Living the UP Dream

Living the UP Dream Living the UP Dream is a gift shop for locally made jewelry, art and craft gifts. Artist consignments

After falling in love with Lake Superior and the UP several years ago, my husband and I made the decision to move here. Bob is an attorney, and is enjoying getting to know people here and helping them with their legal matters. Leaving the music classroom where I taught for over 30 years has opened my world up to a number of different creative pursuits. I look forward to turning Living the UP Dream

into a place where people can come to be creative or to experience the creative talents of the wonderful people of the Upper Peninsula.

What a fun morning! Got to teach my friends and fellow artists Tom and Dale a little bit about making copper wire trees. Always fun to create together, and I think I imparted enough ideas to give them a starting point to putting their own creative touches on future projects. Thanks so much, guys!

Sometimes creativity is a long process….
There’s been a little chunk of driftwood hanging out on my desk for a couple of months now. I had a feeling, right away, of what it aspired to become, but I didn’t want to jump into the project, hurry the process, and ruin it. This week it was finally time for this homely little chunk to realize its true potential! Check out my comment to see the transformation.

So I like to make these little dragon pictures, painting a tiny 4 inch canvas (because I’m no good at painting BIG). Started out a couple years ago with different colored dragons and their individual lairs, using dyed Labradorites. This one is the first in a new series using a natural Labradorite stone, and for some reason, I thought it needed a poem, too 🐉

The seasons are turning, just a bit, this week. False spring….again. It feels good to use this time, before real spring, which moves so quickly to an achingly beautiful and busy summer in the western U.P., to create new pieces that further us on our creative journeys. My friends here are busy too, and I love when they bring their new work to the shop. I would like to invite the others who share this retail space with me to bring their new items here, and if you are someone who loves to create and would like the opportunity to sell your items here, message me and let’s start a conversation about how that works. Happy (false?) spring, everyone!
