After graduating high school in 1955, Morgan Freeman had a drama scholarship offer from Jackson State University. But instead of taking it, he chose a very different path: he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.

Freeman trained as an automatic tracking radar repairman, rose to the rank of airman first class, and served until his honorable discharge in 1959. Only after that did he continue chasing acting, eventually becoming one of the most recognizable voices and actors in the world.

It’s a great reminder that some people take a long, unexpected road before becoming who we know them as.

USS Olympia (C-6) is the world oldest steel cruiser still afloat. She served as Admiral George Dewey's flagship during the Battle of Manila Bay in 1898. After her service, USS Olympia (C-6) was preserved as a museum ship at the Independence Seaport Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Today, these historic ships are among the United States most valuable maritime heritage sites, providing visitors with a firsthand glimpse of late 19th-century warship technology.⚓
