The stunning fuchsia flowering plant is aptly named to describe its vibrant jewel toned dangling blooms. Although you probably don't have these bi-color bell shaped flowers hanging in your entry way in Florida, but you can create these violet and deep pink blossoms with paper. This beautiful card features an embossed pale lavender fuchsia themed background panel with layered impressive violet and deep pink flowers. All the pieces are cut to size and put into kits. Add some ink blending, layer up the pieces, and glue the flowers to the card front to complete the project. A layered diagram is included for ease of assembly. Bring your work box with foam tape. Optional to bring the following for easier completion of the card: medium green ink pad, white ink pad, and purple ink pad with matching applicators for each pad.

Show and Tell is now Tips and Tricks
10:30 to 11:30
(No fee. This time is included in the Gathering)

Showing hand made cards is always a welcome way to inspire others in the group. Let's enhance that fun part of the Gathering beginning this month.
The Show and Tell portion of the Gathering is being re-named Tips and Tricks. We want to collectively inspire everyone to elevate their paper crafting skills to a new level by sharing techniques, processes, patterns, and directions about products in your craft room that have sat on a shelf for a while, or those that you have recently rediscovered. For example, how about demonstrating how to use a product like alcohol inks or making wax seals? Do you have A Glimmer or a Better Press machine that you enjoy using and would like to show others? Could you share directions for an interesting card fold? Have you made a new purchase or discovered an item that you would like to show? Could you demonstrate how you like to ink a background? Do you have a tool that makes crafting easier for you? The ideas go on and on! Participate and make this a super fun time for everyone this month

Enjoy creating four easel cards featuring rubber stamped images accompanied by funny phrases. Do you remember the time before we had dies and die cutting machines?! Let's re-visit those days! You won't find any die cuts used on these entertaining cards! All the images are rubber stamped and colored with colored pencils in this throwback class. Embossing folders are used effectively to showcase the rubber stamped images and word stamps to create a quartet of cards that will be fun to make and send. Two of the easel cards are the standard A-2 size. The remaining two in the group of four are mini slim line easel cads. All cards stand up for display purposes but fold flat for mailing. All components are cut to size, scored, rubber stamped, and embossed. The fun part is left to you to simply color and assemble these cards that will make you, and your recipient, smile. Please bring your workbox including scissors, glue, double sided tape or tape runner, foam tape, a bone folder, a craft mat or scrap paper to protect the tables, a personal trash bin, and your favorite coloring tools including red, medium brown, light, medium, and dark blues, greens, and yellow to orange. The following products are used on the samples. If you have them or something similar, please bring them for your use to improve the flow of the class. A very small amount of these items will be available for class use.

11/15/2023

At age 69 and after owning A Small Cleverness for 30 years, by the grace of God, this announcement should not be a surprise to any of you. I will be closing the shop and retiring in the very near future.

What great fun it has been! Being in the shop was never work. I can hardly believe that three decades have passed. The decision to close was made only days ago. There were no events or situations that resulted in this decision. It is with peace and satisfaction that I can simply say, "It is time."

The list of classes taught by many instructors over the years is long. Our focus has always paper crafting. Other classes and activities included the following: copper etching, silk painting, paper bargello, fabric painting, mixed media, art journaling, junk journals, stenciling, home decor, acrylic pour, artist trading cards (I made 3000), scrap books, Copic coloring, Prismacoloring, watercolor, suminagashi, paper marbling, metal embossing, jewelry making, polymer clay, fat books, altered books, book binding, monoprinting, gel plate printing, Zenspirations, Zentangle, inchies, calligraphy, soldering, origami, iris folding, altered books, foiling, letter press, die cutting, calendars, the original Used Stamp Sale since 1994, Artful Journey, stamp clubs, and much more. A Small Cleverness has been a happy place to create and make friends for 30 years.

If you have been in the shop recently, I apologize for not making this announcement to you in person. I hope you can understand the necessity of making one announcement to all in this manner. It is with deep gratitude and appreciation I thank you for your friendship and support.

Classes and some ordering will continue through December. All merchandise and fixtures will be sold. Obviously, there is much to be done. I will endeavor to expedite the process. Watch for more details.

Sunflower Art Cards and Container with Caroline

Long life and lasting happiness…that is the legend of the sunflower. Cultivated by Native Americans, the sunflower is considered to be a lucky charm. So come find your lucky sunflower!

Create a beautiful box-like decorative container and a set of four beautiful cards and envelopes to go inside it. The container measures approximately 5 ½” x 6” x 1” and is tied closed with a pretty yellow ribbon. What a surprising and unique gift this could be for a special friend!

Each participant is responsible for purchasing the sunflower 8x8 pad ($8.69) which is available at A Small Cleverness. The class kit will include the pre-cut paper used to assemble the box and the supplies needed to make the cards (including embossed backgrounds, die cuts, and other embellishments).

Please bring your toolbox, including a paper trimmer, ruler, bone folder, white glue, double sided tape or tape runner, and foam tape. Distressing the images with your Distress Oxide Vintage Photo ink pad is optional.

Please contact A Small Cleverness as soon as possible to reserve your seat in class or for a class kit. Only a limited number of class seats/kits are available. If you pick up the paper pad before class, please do not cut out the images until class.
