So maybe it’s not the most beautiful, Instagram worthy photo….but this is real life. 🖤 In honor of ✨Small Business Saturday✨ I suddenly felt the need to type a long winded post at 5am.
As a small business owner, I’ll do whatever it takes. Stay late to restock. Get to the shop super early when it’s still dark to make sure every detail is perfect. I work all day, then come home, eat dinner and work until I fall asleep. Whatever I have to do to make your experience with us everything you hoped for, I will do it. I knew that’s what I was signing up for.
I give everything I have for that name on the sign. Urban Farmgirl is everything to me. It’s real. It’s not “business”, it’s personal. All of it. I hate the phrase “it’s just business”. Because I don’t know that way. That sounds so cold and impersonal - there’s not one thing that isn’t personal about small business. I love my employees like family. Truly. I love seeing my customers face light up when they walk in the door…like all their life stress has melted away for a few minutes. I love hearing “I can’t believe it’s been 10 years! I’ve been here since the beginning”. It’s everything. It’s ALL “personal”.
We’re not selling “stuff”. That’s just a bonus so we can make a living. We’re waking up everyday and giving every ounce of what we’ve got to do the right things. The things that on the outside seem fun and beautiful and easy. But on the back end are immensely stressful and take so much of our personal life away. But small businesses owners choose this way of life because we love it. We love our community and want to see it flourish with beauty & uniqueness. For me & my business - I want to do any little thing we can to make your life just a teeny bit happier and your home - the most important place in the world - comfortable & cozy.
Even after all I give to this little business of mine, what you all give back to me is a million times more. You show up. You support us endlessly. You build us up. You’re always reminding us that what we’re doing makes you happy. YOU make it possible for Urban Farmgirl to even exist. We’re not saving lives, but we’re giving happy moments. Moments that I truly feel live on long after you’re home and have placed all those beautiful, new things around your home. Those things influence how you feel in your home more than you ever realize.
So I guess after all this I was just wanted to thank you. And tell you that after 10 years of being the girl behind Urban Farmgirl, I still love it as much as the first day I walked into that little shop on Rural Street. I remember it like it was yesterday. I didn’t have any intention of having a store - until I saw a little old neighborhood grocery store & fell in love.
To look at where we are now - exactly 10 years later - is mind blowing. 20 employees, a warehouse with a store inside, our original location being renovated for a fresh beginning, Main Street Market growing each year, my childhood farm being transformed into a space you can all enjoy. It’s unreal to me. And it’s ALL because of you.
Get out there today and support all the small businesses you can today. We NEED you and please know we are grateful for each and every one of you that walk through our door. 🖤
