I went to see the Tarot exhibition at the Morgan Library in New York and one thing stayed with me: tarot and religion have never been as separate as we’re often taught to believe.
Before tarot became associated with divination, its imagery was filled with the spiritual language of its time, angels, judgment, virtue, temptation, death, resurrection, the Pope, the Devil, heaven and the human soul.
Walking through the exhibition reminded me that humans have always searched for ways to understand the Divine, ourselves, and the mysteries we can’t quite put into words.
Art. Scripture. Symbols. Prayer. Tarot.
Different languages, perhaps… but often asking the same ancient questions:
Who am I?
What am I being called toward?
What must I release?
And how do I find my way back to the Divine?
Maybe spirituality and religion were never as far apart as we made them. 🕯️🔮
