The Hole Picture: Rews' façade is conceived as a perforated screen, a semi-transparent veil that balances privacy with moments of visual connection. Circular openings offer fleeting views between the street and the spaces within. At street level, they reveal only fragments of the interior, while from the elevated interior spaces, they align at eye level to frame views of the busy street.

Inspired by the playful geometry of 1960s architecture, where round windows and expressive forms softened the boundary between building and city, the rhythmic arrangement of openings brings a human scale to the streetscape. By day, the perforations lend a playful cadence to the streetscape. By night, they glow as illuminated portals, offering a glimpse of the energy and activity within.

Costa Naya: The design of Naya Comida + Barrita draws from the laid-back vibrancy of Nayarit's coastline filtered through the lens of mid-century modernism. The space is richly layered in tactile details and artistic objects and embellishments. Warm woods, hand applied plaster, and patterned textiles reference the regions geography, local materials and cultural traditions. Open sight lines and fluid transitions encourage guests to move about freely, mirroring the ease of coastal living. The atmosphere is composed yet relaxed; refined but approachable.

Space Unfolding: At Mosonori, the geometry of the floor plan draws from the tradition of Japanese folding screens. Angled wall planes reinterpret the screen’s role as both divider and connector, shaping the interior into a series of intimate dining nooks. The subtle shifts in orientation modulate privacy, guide movement, and create a layered spatial experience, balancing openness with seclusion in a contemporary restaurant setting.

Grid Lock: A composition of breeze block and linear steel defines this moment along the street edge. The circular perforations of the block and the disciplined geometry of the black steel frame work together to suggest measure and module—an ordered rhythm that both screens and reveals. Live Long & Prosper: Dr. Philips builds on the design language of the Winter Park flagship restaurant, with indigo-dyed fabric, hand-glazed tiles, warm oak, and copper accents. Inspired by an essay by Jun’ichirō Tanizaki, the design embraces shadow to heighten intimacy and material depth. Folding-screen–like walls reveal quiet dining alcoves, while a luminous handroll bar dramatizes the dining ritual. The linear space culminates in a display alcove referencing the Japanese tokonoma; shaped like an auspicious Reishi mushroom, the alcove symbolizes good fortune, health, and longevity.
