September 27 1818 Sarah Sophia Banks an English antiquarian and sister and collaborator of botanist Joseph Banks was born.
She collected and and which are now historically valuable like broadsheets, newspaper clippings, visiting cards, prints, advertisements and playbill

For is seems fitting that we honour the collector and numismatist Sarah Sophia Banks (1744-1818). Soon after the establishment of the Royal Mint Museum in 1816 the new Museum collection was enhanced beyond recognition by a substantial gift of coins, medals and ‘an admirable library of rare and valuable works’ from her estate, built up over many years of collecting.

Miss Banks' careful documentation of her collection provides a rich and illuminating record of fellow collectors from this time. Her brother, the naturalist Joseph Banks, is a frequent source, but it is interesting to note that approximately 20% of the names associated with the coins, tokens and medals she collected were women.

Samuel Adams, the second cousin of President John Adams, was born on this date in 1722. He was one of four representatives from Massachusetts to the First Continental Congress, and (along with his cousin) a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
