🌿 Mini Mounts Co. is heading to Tropical Plant Fest!

On Saturday, October 10, you’ll find us at Booth 27 at the Tropical Plant Fest in Apopka, Florida, hosted at Ecuagenera USA in collaboration with D’Vine Market.

It’s going to be a full day for plant lovers, with 50 small businesses, rare and tropical plants, orchids, Hoyas, aroids, pottery, plant supplies, food, coffee, and more.

And yes, I’ll be bringing a selection of one-of-a-kind mounted miniature orchids, including some pieces prepared especially for the event.

This orchid spent months looking like it wasn’t going to make it. No visible progress, roots that seemed stuck, leaves that just weren’t growing.

Then almost overnight, new growth everywhere. New pseudobulbs, new roots, new leaves.

This is why we always say: give a newly mounted or repotted orchid time before you write it off. Acclimation isn’t linear, and the quiet stretch before growth is normal, not a failure.

Can a mounted orchid really bloom on a ch*****ne cork?

This Tolumnia seems ready to answer that herself.

One of my favorite things about miniature mounted orchids is watching them move beyond simply adapting to the mount and into active growth, new roots, and eventually, blooms.

She’s not open yet, but those buds are getting close.

This orchid looked better the day I mounted it.

And that’s exactly why I don’t judge a newly mounted orchid by how it looks during the first few weeks.

Moving an orchid from its previous growing setup onto a mount is a transition. Some older roots may decline. A leaf may yellow. The plant can look like it’s moving backward while it adjusts to different moisture, airflow, and the new growing surface.

But 30 days later, the real story is starting to show.

Fresh green root tips.
New root growth.
New growth on the plant.

Those are the signs I’m watching for.

This is also why I don’t offer a Mini Mount for sale immediately after mounting. I want to give the orchid time to respond to its new environment and show me that the stabilization process is moving in the right direction.

Day 1 may have looked prettier.

Day 30 tells me much more. 🌱

Sometimes the smallest growth means the most.

This Aerangis luteo-alba var. rhodosticta has been one of the more challenging orchids I’ve worked with after compot.

The transition wasn’t perfectly smooth, and I’ve shared some of that process before. So when I spotted this fresh green root tip, it deserved its own little celebration.

A new root tip may not look dramatic, but on a mounted orchid it tells me something important.

The plant is growing.
The root system is active.
And it is continuing to adapt to its mount.

This is exactly why I pay so much attention to roots.

Sometimes progress isn’t a flower spike or a new leaf.

Sometimes it’s just a few millimeters of bright green growth.

And that is more than enough.

Root people, you understand. ♡
