Quartz or quartzite? They sound like twins, but they behave very differently in a real kitchen. The short version:

Quartz is engineered: predictable, non-porous, and basically maintenance-free, which is why so many of our clients love it.

Quartzite is 100% natural stone: beautiful, heat-resistant, and one-of-a-kind, but is porous so it needs sealing (and usually a bigger budget).

Our go-tos? Calacatta Mirraggio Duo on the quartz side, and Calacatta Taj Mahal for quartzite — though if we're being honest, we've never met a quartzite slab we didn't love.

The costliest mistake we see? Locking in a floor plan before anyone's asked how you actually live in the space.

On paper, a layout can look perfect. But once we sit down and talk through your morning routine, where everyone piles up at dinner, how you really use that one awkward corner — the "perfect" plan almost always changes. And it changes while it's still just lines on a page, instead of becoming a costly do-over after the walls are up.

That's the whole point of designing with someone first. We're not here to hand you a pretty rendering. We're here to build a space that fits your life.

The storage solution almost nobody asks for but everyone needs: a dedicated water bottle drawer. It's the kind of detail that may not make your Pinterest board, but it's one clients text us about months later. We love adding in the small daily wins!

Some projects are about a fresh start. This one was about coming home. 🤍

When the Macaluscos moved into this house, it was already full of history and familiarity, but it didn’t yet feel like theirs. So that was the whole assignment: take a space they’d known for years and make it unmistakably their own. Not shiny and brand-new for the sake of it, but elevated, warm, and built around exactly how they live day to day.

We traded the dated ‘90s details for something with a farm-to-table, garden-inspired soul: natural materials, brass that’ll only get better with age, and the kind of finishes that feel collected over time.

Breaking ground on a new pool or finally updating a weathered or dated patio? 🏡 These tips will ensure your finished project works for your life and climate through every season.

☀️DESIGN FOR USE. Start with how you’ll move. Plan the flow from the back door to the grill and the pool to the seating area, so the space feels like a natural extension of your home without any annoying roadblocks.

🌦️KNOW THE CLIMATE. Here in the Midwest, seasons are harsh and the weather can change quickly. Covered patios are lifesavers in the summer heat and spring storms, pergolas provide some shelter from the sun, while a fireplace or fire pit keeps the vibes going through the colder months.

🧱PICK TOUGH MATERIALS. Durability is everything, especially in the Midwest. We recommend porcelain pavers like for a clean look, or natural stone for organic texture. Use composite decking over wood for lower maintenance, and stick to teak or powder-coated aluminum for furniture that lasts.

✨LIGHTING IS EVERYTHING. Lighting is the difference between a patio you use until 8:00 PM and one you enjoy all night. Use step lights for safety, string lights for cozy vibes, and landscape lighting to highlight the yard.
