A few years ago when I first started selling macrame - especially custom orders - I wish I knew to take full payment upfront.
Call me naive, that’s okay! 🤷🏻♀️
I had a friend ask if I could make this piece above ⬆️ and of course, I said yes! I was excited and told her she could pay when I delivered it. Huge mistake! 🚨
As I worked on it, I checked in with her, made sure she still wanted it - everything was good! ✅
But once I finished and reached out to let her know it was ready… crickets. 🦗
I messaged her again. And again. No response. 😶
By the time I sent a final message, I knew—I had been ghosted. 👻
It wasn’t just about the money (though, yeah, that stung). It was the hours I put into this piece. The materials. The effort. And now, I had this beautiful wall hanging with no home.
Lesson learned: Full payment first. No exceptions.
So for now, this piece is hanging in my stairwell, waiting for someone who truly wants it. 🏡✨
