Pagosa Cooks

Pagosa Cooks A culinary experience guided by professional chefs and cooks centered around a simple recipe. You wil Their laugh became this harmonies music of love.

Some of my best memories as a child were being at my Grandma Werley’s house. I felt she must cook 24 hours a day as there was always a fresh baked cake or brownies or goulash or something else that she just whipped up. The holidays were the best; the kitchen was filled with laughter from my grandma, mom and aunts. This is where I started my love for food and cooking. The meals never had to be extr

avagant; it was about the time together, the conversations and sharing a meal. I started Pagosa Cooks! to share the love of food and conversation that my grandma shared with me.

When I first moved to Colorado almost 26 years ago, I considered myself a good baker. I made a special from scratch Hershey cake for a friend, and I pulled it out of the oven and I thought it was perfect. Removed the Bundt pan, and I thought it was a little weird. I stuck a toothpick in the side of it, and it all crumbled. It was like popping a balloon, pieces were all over the counter. My husband with pure support in his voice said "you did it!, you created a perfect crumb cake." I cried, but all I could really do was laugh.

Anyway I wish I had Kathy Keyes and Pagosa Baking in my life then. So if you have experienced this or something similar, please join us this Wednesday, Oct. 22 to learn high altitude baking skills with Kathy.

I know the last few days have been scary for our community, and the last thing we are thinking about is a cooking class, but cooking with friends may be the perfect thing. I started these classes because I love and miss the conversations that happen while cooking and sitting around the dining table; they are the best mental therapy.

If anyone knows of someone that could use a meal prepped for them where they don’t have that worry this week or if anyone is still displaced, please reach out directly. The cost of the class will be covered. Even if you cannot attend the class, we will prep a meal for you.

There is a quote that I like that could summarize Pagosa Cooks from the book, The Omnivore’s Dilemma…” Food is the ingredient that binds us together."

We are back!
I am super excited about our Thursday, May 22nd class. Catherine Siebel with Fearless Cooking will instruct our first kid and adult cooking class.

This class is designed to prepare a simple dish where kids will learn basic kitchen techniques: how to measure, how to hold a small knife safely, cooking vocabulary, and other great things to assist with future meals. Or even be able to prepare a meal for the family.

We know this is a school night, so we will start promtply, have fun and get you home in time for bed.
