Pineapples are long considered a symbol of hospitality and The first recorded encounter with pineapples dates back to 1493 during Christopher Columbus's second voyage to the Caribbean. His crew discovered a variety of unique fruits and vegetables, including one with a rough exterior like a pinecone and an interior similar to an apple. They brought this new fruit back to Europe, where it became a sensation among the royal family.
Due to the scarcity of pineapples, tradition held that if you attended an event where the host offered a pineapple, it was clear they had gone to great lengths to create a beautiful occasion. Furthermore, being served a dish topped with pineapple was considered a great honor. Thus, the pineapple became a symbol of hospitality and gracious hosting.
