Did you know that there are three ways to work with me and my creative interior design team at MMID? You can engage our services in the way that works best for you and your project. 

1. Full Service Design: All the bells and whistles. We design, handle procurement, and ex*****on - meaning construction phase project management, and delivering and installing all of your furnishings. We illuminate the way for you, on a path we have traveled many times before, and handle all the details in this comprehensive service. 
2. Design Intensive Day: Available in 3-hour or 6-hour sessions, this in-person intensive addresses your most pressing design dilemmas. At your location of choice, you get full access to my “design brain”, and leave with resources and suggestions to act on. 
3. Hourly Consultations: Maybe you live across the country, or want to tackle your DIY project a little at a time. This service is perfect for you. You meet with me via Google Meet to get design analysis, solutions, and resources. And easy-peasy, you can book a consultation directly at the 🔗in bio!

Are you wondering whether working with an interior designer is right for you? Working alongside an interior designer with extensive knowledge and outside perspective can be a game changer. 

Here’s our top five signs that indicate you are stuck in design purgatory and need to call in a professional: 
1. When you look at options (whether tile, plumbing, or sofas), you become completely overwhelmed by the plethora of design choices.
2. You know the problems, but you don’t have the design know-how to tackle them correctly—we’re looking at you, funky kitchen layout!
3. You don’t want to bite off more than you can chew, but you’re also afraid that if you take it slow, the results won’t be cohesive.

Hello, I’m Melinda Mandell, founder and principal designer of Melinda Mandell Interior Design, serving clients in the San Francisco Bay Area, and beyond. I established MMID with a unique approach to interior design founded in color, beauty, historical precedence, and precision. The result is vibrant spaces that are works of art as unique as each client. 

Over a decade later, our penchant for creating unapologetically beautiful spaces has resulted in over a dozen design awards and a reputation for flawless ex*****on. As experienced interior designers, we love taking each client’s style and combining it with our keen ability to ground a space in purpose, beauty, and art. When our clients dream of a jewel box powder room, we deliver! ❤️

We envisioned something lush and intense for this small space, and when our client said “floral wallpaper” we jumped in head first. We sourced this beautiful pattern from in Britain and had the sconce lamp shades custom color matched to the green tone of the leaves.

With a custom oak vanity and a carrara countertop the space was complete!

We couldn’t be happier with how this little powder room came together!

This project in Danville has been a labor of love and patience during the pandemic. These clients were looking to create a tailored new home where their friends, kid’s friends, and family can gather frequently.

Fingers crossed, we will be delivering the last pieces for this project this month!

Patterned rugs, durable textiles, and warm wood finishes will help this home feel elegant but not formal, inviting, and welcoming.

Finding the right art piece is key to any design. Along with the medium, the composition, and the emotional connection, the scale of the piece is crucial. 🖼

Getting the right fit can be challenging, but it’s not impossible. We help our clients with mockup drawings and visualizations. For your next project, here are a few tips…

For size: start with ⅔ of the piece that is grounding it (in this case a console), or the wall it’s on. For you nerds: you are looking for the golden ratio.

For mounting height: start with 5’ on center - this is gallery height, and some imagined human average eye-height. Adjust for comfort, proximity to furniture, and the height of your relatives. If a big piece is mounted a few inches higher, it will create a sense of awe.

Remember, you don’t want to be craning your neck.

Furniture: I love BIG horizontal pieces over the backs of sofas, vertical pieces over consoles, and small pieces in gallery wall collections where you can get up close and personal with them.

For gallery walls, the rules above apply - but think of the “art” as the whole composition of pieces.
