We’re hiring a Part-Time Design Assistant to join our team in Palos Verdes Estates.

We’re looking for someone with previous interior design experience who is organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and genuinely excited about the work. You should be comfortable in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Dropbox, and Canva, and enjoy everything from pulling together mood boards and design schemes to helping keep the many details of a project and our studio moving.

This is a 15–20 hour per week position, with in-person work preferred.

Everyone wants a home that feels calm. But here’s the thing: calm usually has very little to do with the throw pillows. 😉

It’s about what your eye has to process when you walk into a room. The clutter you’ve stopped noticing. The color that’s never felt quite right. The furniture layout you’ve been working around for five years. Even the natural light you might accidentally be blocking.

And no, the answer isn’t to get rid of everything and become a minimalist.

The Manhattan Beach Project dining area might just have one of the best seats in the house. ☀️

We kept this space simple and inviting, pairing a warm wood table with soft blue upholstered chairs and woven shades, letting that incredible ocean view do most of the talking.

I especially love how the blue we carried throughout the home shows up again here. It feels fresh and coastal without ever feeling too “themed,” and the collected artwork adds just the right amount of personality.

A spot for morning coffee, family dinners, and lingering a little longer because… how could you not with that view?

This room is such a good example of why a home doesn’t have to take itself too seriously to feel beautifully designed. We layered soft blues with playful pinks, pattern, collected accessories, and plenty of personality, all grounded by that crisp white shiplap fireplace.

And one of my favorite details? The surfboards tucked right into the built-ins. Because the things that tell your family’s story deserve a place in the design, too.

Bright, comfortable, a little playful, and very California, exactly how we wanted this room to feel.

Okay, we’ve teased you enough… the Manhattan Beach Project is officially ready for its reveal. ✨

For this home, we wanted the kitchen to feel light and fresh without losing warmth or character. Crisp white cabinetry and marble are grounded by the warm wood island, woven shades, and those oversized black pendants, with just enough pattern on the stools to keep things interesting.

It’s bright, welcoming, and meant to actually be lived in. And this is only the beginning.

A little summer update from JKB Home Design.

It’s been a busy one behind the scenes. We wrapped up two projects (and cannot wait to share more of them!), while several others are still very much in the messy middle phase, selections being made, installations underway, and lots of details slowly coming together.

There’s something especially exciting about this point in the year, when projects we’ve been working on for months start to take shape, and we get a glimpse of what’s ahead.

We have so much to share this fall. New projects, finished spaces, behind-the-scenes moments, and plenty more from this crew.

Have you ever walked into your own home and thought… “Why doesn’t this feel the way I imagined it would?”

Sometimes a home can look beautiful and still feel like something is missing.

Maybe the sofa is perfectly styled, but there’s nowhere comfortable to put your feet up. Maybe the room photographs beautifully, but the furniture layout makes conversation feel awkward. Maybe everything is technically “right,” but you never find yourself wanting to linger there.

That’s the difference between a home that’s decorated and a home that’s designed.

Good design isn’t just about what you see; it’s about how a space supports the way you actually live. Where you drop your keys, where you have your morning coffee, where your family gathers, and where guests naturally end up lingering long after dinner is over.

The most beautiful homes aren’t the ones that feel untouchable. They’re the ones that invite you in.

I know you remember this dining room, but have you seen what it looked like before? (swipe to find out!)

One of our favorite parts of this project was proving that a transformation doesn’t always mean starting over.

We kept many of the homeowners’ original furniture pieces, pieces with character, history, and a story already attached to them, and focused on creating a space that felt refreshed, refined, and more connected to the home’s French Country charm.

The bold red walls were replaced with a soft, neutral palette that instantly lightened the room and allowed the existing pieces to shine. We swapped out the rug, updated the lighting, and layered in subtle details that brought a more tailored, timeless feel to the space.

This is what we love about thoughtful design: sometimes the most beautiful rooms come from knowing what to keep, what to edit, and where a few intentional changes can make all the difference.

I’ll never get tired of wallpaper. It’s one of those design choices that instantly makes a space feel more layered, personal, and full of personality.

Whether it’s a dramatic botanical, a playful pattern tucked into a powder room, or a timeless print that feels like it’s been there forever, wallpaper has a way of bringing a room to life in a way paint just can’t.

I love that there’s a wallpaper out there for every kind of person. Some make you stop in your tracks, and others quietly add that “something” you can’t quite put your finger on.

So I have to know: are you a bold wallpaper person, or do you lean toward the classics?
