Our farm has officially welcomed the young call ducks, who have been with us for about five weeks now. Although their primary purpose was to entertain the grandchildren, I have grown quite fond of them myself. From their tiny size initially, they have transitioned from the family room to the rabbit hutch and finally to their large duck house. Call ducks are smaller than regular size ducks. Easy to handle and hold! Fun for everyone!

Each morning, I attend to my responsibilities in the barn, which consist of feeding, washing water tubs, and replenishing minerals, in addition to monitoring the sheep's eye health and giving cuddles. The 8 ewes were AI ’d .Two didn’t take.The backup ram's (98.8%)successful breeding with the last two ewes, has yielded two male and one female lamb. The Gotland breed is renowned for its gorgeous fleece quality, and our lambs display characteristic black heads with soft, shiny grey curls. After ear-tagging, the first nine lambs underwent genotyping, confirming seven as QRs at codon 171. The lambs are doing exceptionally well. Later, in my day is outdoor weeding. Weeds don’t stop! Our classes will run through the summer, and we've scheduled a 'dye your fleece' workshop for September 5th; for more details, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Seven ewes and two ram lambs were born this spring. Tamarack Farm Gotlands is hosting farm tours. We have roving and yarn available in our “stuga”.

We are currently in the midst of lambing season, resulting in our barn being fully occupied. In Greencastle, PA, eight ewes underwent artificial insemination on December 9th, with seven successfully breeding. The semen used was sourced from Sabin Imhasly, who established a partnership with Swedish Gotland farmers to transport embryos to New Zealand, thus commencing the breeding process. A four-week waiting period followed the procedure, after which a backup ram was introduced to determine pregnancy status. With the breeding cycle concluded, we will now focus on upcoming activities. Farm tours will be available in two weeks, and our 'stuga' will open, offering new yarn and roving. We also expect to have Swedish geraniums available for purchase.
