Below is copued from his Aunt:
Today is a day that would normally bring smiles, but now it brings sadness, because when you lose someone at a young and their birthday arrives, it makes your heart sad for one reason or another. Today being Brandi’s birthday and the fact that she left this earth at a young age hurts many of our hearts, but most of all, her son that was only 8 years old when she died.
I decided to do something for Rylan, regardless of how old he gets, he could always hold and feel like he had a part of his mommy with him.
The quilt you see Rylan holding is a very special quilt. It is made from Brandi’s nursing scrubs that she wore to work. All the solid colors in this quilt are materials from Brandi’s scrubs, the pockets on the quilt are also pockets that were on Brandi’s scrubs and the two “V” shapes on the quilt were taken from around the neck of her scrubs. The one pockets that has the special saying monogrammed on it, is what Brandi said to Rylan from the time he was born. The printed math material on the quilt was used in memory of Brandi and in honor or Rylan, because math was something she used during her Nursing school and Rylan also likes math. The actual pattern of the quilt is called Turkey Tracks, so Rylan got a little Mississippi hunting included his quilt.
A lot of thought and love went into this quilt. It actually took about 3 months to make it. The lady that did it for me did an amazing job and I have to give her credit for the pattern of the quilt also. I had no idea what pattern she was going to use until once she got started and she texted me. It brought a smile to my face. So thank you, Jane Deason Nail, owner of W N S Quilts by JDN. Also, I want to thank Chasity for getting Brandi’s scrubs and letting me have them. I also want to thank Marshall & Whitney Cress, Rylan’s daddy & momma, they knew I was having the quilt made and it was being shipped to Rylan. It actually got to their home about 3 weeks ago and I had ask them to put it up and hold it for Rylan to open for Brandi’s birthday, which they did. Marshall, Whitney, along with Rylan’s younger sister and brother have shown Rylan so much love and support and he is so lucky to have them. I know Brandi smiles down from heaven on her son and the young man he’s becoming.
