I love a moody jewel box of an entryway, especially when the space transitions into something light and bright beyond the door! Amazing graffiti wallpaper by and lots of vintage round the space out!

This first floor full bath had been newly renovated before the house was put on the market for sale. The shower made the space feel cramped and was likely to never be used. The color palette and vertical glass tiles seemed dated and did not work with the rest of the home’s interiors.

Rather than invest in a full fledged gut renovation, the space was updated with simple changes that transformed the space with zero construction! Here’s how we did it…

All tile below the chair rail as well as millwork and ceiling were painted an off black. We used which does a particularly good job of adhering to tile.

The shower doors were removed and a chest of drawers was placed in the unused shower for storage and an additional surface for hand towels, guest towels etc.

The tile walls above the chair rail were papered with a custom sized sepia mural made by . The peel and stick application of the wallpaper allowed us to apply the paper directly onto the tile.

The floor tiles were covered with this peel & stick decorative tile by .

We rounded out the space with a bamboo shade and accessorized with a few vintage finds including the chinoiserie mirror, griffin prints and the dolphin form brass towel ring.

We couldn’t be happier with the results!

If you love your kitchen’s layout and your cabinets are still in great shape, a kitchen facelift might be for you! With a little paint, new counters and backsplash and updated cabinet hardware you can have a new kitchen ! A few rules for a successful and lasting transformation…

1. Ensure your cabinets are in good shape-the painting is one of the most costly parts of this process so if the hinges are falling off and doors are cracking there is no use in painting-you are better off with new cabinets.

2. Hire an experienced cabinet or furniture painter-a smooth and professional looking finish is all down to how the painter preps the doors for paint and what products they use.

3. Think about lighting. Lighting is such an important component of any space and in kitchens I view lighting as the jewelry. If you are taking the time and effort to paint your cabinets, give a little thought to where lights would add the most functional use and then find lighting that adds a bit of your personality into the space.

4. Have a game plan. You will still be out of a kitchen for 8 weeks. Make sure you have thought about where to set up a temporary kitchen, prep and freeze food in advance and time the upgrade for warm weather so that the grill can be your go to cooking tool.

The 5 Best Holiday Tabletop Items to Source at Estate Sales

Whether you are a seasoned holiday entertainer or you are kitting out your table for the first time, estate sales are an amazing resource to adorn your table in a unique and festvive way.

Here are the five things I always source from estate sales for my holiday table:

China-Looking to dress your holiday table with something more interesting than the white plate? Estate sales are treasure troves for interesting plates often priced at a fraction of retail.

Flatware-Vintage Sterling,

Barware-In the 1950s, 60s and 70s home bar culture was at its peak. Most homes had dry or even wet bars in the living room that included things like gilt cocktail glasses, cocktail shakers in animal and fruit forms and ice buckets in every color and material. There is no better way to liven up your bar or bar cart than with a few retro bar items…

Large Scale Serving Pieces-Silver, pewter, porcelain and beyond, who says all of the serving pieces on your table need to match? Your holiday table will be infinitely more interesting if you layer serving pieces in different materials and patterns.

Flatware-Vintage Sterling, Silver Plate or even Stainless are always available. If you see something you love and there are not enough pieces, don’t fret, extra pieces are generally available on sites such as eBay.com or replacments.com and there is no shame in mixing a few patterns for an eccletic look.

Table Linens-There are few modern home textile companies who make table linens of a quality commensurate with vintage linen. White damask napkins abound at almost every estate sale I walk into. It is fine to mix napkins so long as they are the same size and in the same color family…no one will notice if there is a slightly different border on their neighbor’s napkin!

Think of the guest bedrooms as your experimental design play ground. These rooms are made for mixing and matching family heirlooms, estate sale finds and stylish big box filler pieces. Guest rooms are also great places to showcase a style that you love, but that has little relation to your homes’ architecture or its overall design vibe.

No matter what the design feel in your guest room, always make sure that they have a few essential pieces…

1. Comfy bedding
2. End of bed bench for clothes or other storage
3. A small desk and chair for remote working
4. Plush chair, ottoman and reading lamp if space allows

A small vase of cut flowers and a water carafe on the bedside table gild the lily if you have the time!
