So I’m a little late on this one considering we are now well into 2023 but it’s been a busy winter so far 😅

2022 was an eventful year for me personally. Between moving in with my sweetheart , starting a new job, integrating our pain in the ass cats and setting up a new shop space, it has been great but very busy. Somehow I still found time to get some projects completed and most of them sold.

I added a small lathe and a laser cutter / engraver to my tool bag this year and they have both really allowed me to get creative and maintain a higher quality of work. I have only scratched the surface of what these machines can do and I’m excited to spend some time this year really exploring (in between a slew of house renovations and my very busy day job of course).

A sincere thank you to everyone who has supported my small business in the past year. I look forward to more interesting custom projects in the year to come!

*6 PREORDER SPOTS LEFT*

Since tomorrow is the first day of October and it seems like Christmas always comes up very quickly from there I wanted to open up custom charcuterie board orders for the season. I'll take ten orders for now, possibly more later if time permits.

These are a few examples of board shapes / colors I have done in the past and I can do any other custom shape with many options for epoxy colors. Pricing will depend on size and complexity of the design but $120-160 is my typical range for the walnut and epoxy boards.

The 14" round oak serving boards (first picture) will be $90 each with an option for custom laser engraving for an additional cost depending on complexity. I'll be making up a few blanks ahead of time for craft shows so these could be ready for delivery much sooner.

Shoot me a message if you are interested!

So I have been taking a bit of a break for the last few months while I adjusted to my new job and living with my beautiful talented girlfriend but now that I have my new shop set up here I’m going to get back to it.

I’m coming out of the gate strong with this first new charcuterie board in a totally different shape than I’ve done before as well as a little bit of exposed live edge. The handle shape works awesome for holding a bowl of dip for your charcuterie too 😎 Also, that blue 🤤

I’ve got a few walnut slabs still stocked and I’m open to taking some custom orders if people are looking to get a real early start on Christmas shopping or want an awesome gift for a fall wedding. Just shoot me a message on Instagram or Facebook!

I was recently digging through some of my old portfolio images and this model from one of my co-op semesters still amazes me. This was a solid two weeks of cutting and filing tinyyy pieces of basswood, no CNC or laser cutter, just an exacto knife and files. I loved it and I’m surprised that I didn’t realize then that building things was the path my life was meant to take.

For some perspective, the footprint of the bigger building was about the size of an Altoids tin and the small columns were thinner than a toothpick 😬

I’ve been holding back on posting pictures from my day job but this past week I took some nighttime shots that really make me proud of what we have accomplished here. This is hands down the craziest thing I have worked on and I’m so happy we are closing in on the finish line after almost 3 years.

That fireplace by still blows my mind every day and the net loft by is the fun quirky detail that puts it over the top. Overall it’s been a great experience working with and I can’t wait to take some spring exterior shots with the landscaping all finished up!

Since we are both working on Monday, Lauren Ann and I decided we’d celebrate Valentine’s Day yesterday. My present for her was this walnut and epoxy tub tray with routed insets for wine glasses, phone/ipad and candles. I also added an adjustable clamping mechanism to hold it in place. Overall I think it turned out super cool 😎

Her gifts to me were an awesome his and hers set of Valentine’s mugs from Dragons Breath Pottery, Maine and a big bag of the best coffee ever, Jingle Java from Rock City Coffee. She also learned and recorded a beautiful song for me even though she had a million other things to do last week 🥰

To finish off the day, we had a great meal at Provender Kitchen + Bar. If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and check them out. After lunch we stopped by Momo's Cheesecakes Bakery cheesecake barn and got a few slices of the best cheesecake on earth.

Overall, it was a pretty dope Valentine’s Day with my favorite person. 10/10 would do again.

2021 has been another rough pandemic year for everyone and in the past I might have let that send me into a deep depression for most of the year. Instead, I have put my head down, tuned out a lot of the worlds noise and had easily the most productive year of my life.

Every one of these pictures represents a project or earring design I completed this year, many I sold, which was also a new challenge for me. I’m still working out the kinks in how I’m posting things for sale and hope to have a dedicated website up and running sometime after the new year!

I want to sincerely thank everyone who has supported my new business this past year, it has really meant a lot to have so many people value my work. I also want to thank my beautiful talented girlfriend Rockland Mills for always encouraging me and being there to bounce ideas off of. You truly make everything I do that much better sweetheart 😘

I’ll be taking a little bit of a break for the first month or so of 2022 to take care of some household projects and generally relax. Keep an eye out for when I get back to work though, I’ve got lots of cool new ideas (a few involve the new lathe I got for Christmas 👀).

Happy New Year,
Derek
