The Retired Crayola Master List (Community Project)
Over the last week, I’ve been diving down the rabbit hole of vintage and retired Crayola crayons.
What started as a bag of crayons I almost sold by weight has turned into hours of research, sold comps, collector information, and some fascinating discoveries.
The more I learn, the more I realize there isn’t one simple master list that covers everything.
So I’ve decided to start building one.
My goal is to create a Retired Crayola Master List that resellers, collectors, teachers, artists, and curious treasure hunters can use as a reference.
I don’t want to limit it to just Crayola’s officially retired colors. I’d also like to track:
• Retired colors
• Renamed colors
• Limited-run colors
• Promotional colors
• Contest colors
• Foreign-language variations
• Wrapper variations
• Known BOLO colors
Officially Retired Crayola Colors

• Maize
• Lemon Yellow
• Violet Blue

Notable Promotional, Commemorative & Variant Colors
• Blue Ribbon (1996) – Created to commemorate Crayola producing its 100,000,000,000th crayon.
• Torch Red (1997) – Short production run color later renamed Scarlet.
• Purple Mountain’s Majesty
• Barney Purple
I’m sure there are many more that I haven’t discovered yet.
If you know of a color, wrapper variation, promotional release, commemorative crayon, or Crayola oddity that belongs on the list, drop it in the comments.
I’ll keep updating the spreadsheet as new information comes in and eventually make it available as a free resource for the reseller and collector community.
Save this post and follow along. Let’s see how comprehensive we can make this list together.
