After a Kune Kune jailbreak the other night, it was time to build a space especially for the pigs! Wallow pond (using a plastic kiddie pool as a base to help retain water) and a new shelter with a DIY hay feeder are now installed.

It's crazy the amount of knowledge/skills that can be lost in two generations. Most of our grandparents knew how to grow and preserve food. They knew how to harvest the seeds for the next year's planting. Fast forward a few generations, and most of these skills and knowledge have not been taught or past down to a future generations. Raleigh learned the basics of pressure canning. She learned that our elevation dictates, how much weight we cann at and psi. We checked for good seals. We learned the difference between water bath canning and pressure canning. We canned 24 jars of pork, 12 jars of chicken, 30 jars of bone broth! I hope to see younger generations learning the value of self sufficiency.
