A sincere thanks to Kim for pointing out the mistaken date on the first post. Correcting the mistake gives us a chance to introduce you to the most recent member of our backyard wild animal menagerie, Painty the Porcupine. Prior wandering into our backyard, Painty seems to have had a run-in with some bright green paint, which was very obvious when it decided to come up on the step to the deck, mere inches from my feet. After checking me out, Painty stepped back, made a tiny snort, and proceeded to turn around and make an impressive display of the quills, and chattered as it slowly strolled away, looking over its shoulder repeatedly to ensure it wasn’t followed. We’ve since seen Painty every day in the backyard, enjoying the green grass and roots and whatever else it desires. And we’re delighted to report that the small paint splotch is gone and the larger one is fading. Painty joins the 5 deer who regularly visit the yard, a bobcat and her 2 kittens, the gorgeous coyote that wanders through at times, a couple of resident barred owls, a long-eared owl, the seemingly never ending rafters of turkeys that a parade through, and a bevy of other wildlife that come and go to enjoy the large expanse of wild grasses and the cool waters of the vernal pools and the protection afforded by the woods on three sides. Every day there’s something new to see and hear simply by opening the curtains and windows and we love it!
Hope to see you in the shop soon and wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!
