Only one more week!!! I can't wait to be at the Pumpkin Palooza next Saturday at Springtown Garden Center!! Come sniff and taste all the flavors we have, and try a meringue or 2 as well! I was asked what in the heck vanilla bean paste is.

The name is misleading, because this wonderful concoction is actually more of a syrup. It contains the "caviar" of the bean, the tiny little seeds, which give the little black vanilla flecks to ice cream, angel food cake, meringues, etc.

Vanilla bean paste is perfect for meringues, because it doesn't add any water to it like an extract, so you're not left with a gloppy mess.

As yummy as vanilla bean paste is in baked goods, it's also killer as a glaze on grilled (or any) meats. I slathered it all over the brisket in the picture, and it was so tender!!

I've been getting questions on some of the products and just exactly how to use them, so here goes!

First product: vanilla extract! Yep, essential in cakes and cookies and other baked goods. But did you know that mosquitos are repelled by the scent of vanilla?? Even Texas mosquitos! Vanilla extract's earthy flavor is also great in marinades and bbq sauces. Fun fact! Just like mustard, vanilla is a great meat tenderizer.

Last but not least: This extract makes the best vanilla coke you will ever taste!

It's that time of year again!! Come on out to the Christmas in July show at St Richard's Episcopal Church tomorrow from 9-7 and Saturday from 9-4. I've been craving Mom's donuts for the last few days, so got up and made them. Yes, that is bacon on top. Chocolate and maple glazed, and then cinnamon sugar. These are even better than I remembered. Thanks, Mom!! Took me back to Panama!

Hey everybody! I just wanted to give a big shout out to The Market at Town Creek for the wonderful market yesterday!! Lots of friendly folks, both vendors and customers. I enjoyed talking to everyone and meeting new friends. I'm sorry I didn't do this yesterday, but I was a whupped puppy when I got home last night! I hope to see everyone again soon.
