This morning, I woke up feeling a little anxious. I hopped on Instagram too early in the day and fell prey to the comparison trap. I started to scroll through my feed, seeing things others had and I wished to achieve. It left me in a sunken place, wondering why those opportunities I worked hard for hadnāt yet come my way. I got outside, touched grass and tried to move on. Tonight, while sitting at our white cloth table for Providence Animal Centerās Gimme Shelter Gala, my husband (who also happens to be my bookkeeper), turned to me and told me he wanted to give the highest level donation of $10,000. In that moment, those anxieties from the morning washed away. For years, Alex and I have poured over the books. Iām constantly pushing for new strategies and approaches to how we operate - and often was met with a question from Alex of āwhy.ā āWhy, weāre doing fine.ā Well I wanted to be doing better than fine, because I know that the better our business does, the more good we can funnel out into the world. Over the years, Alex and I have given thousands of dollars to PAC - in chunks of $2500 or $5000 - always with the goal in mind of giving $10,000 or more annually. Tonight, I am beyond proud to say that, without even as much as a conversation beforehand, Alex raised his paddle to donate to such a worthy cause. No design accolade or press feature could ever compare to this feeling. To be able to give back to a cause I care so much about - and have others match that effort by donating as well - that, friends, is why our design business still stands. It is my passion for rescuing animals that drives me to create a solid interior design business. I am a big believer that we all need to be talking about the good weāre doing in the world, as it inspires others to act. So donāt be silent - celebrate the ways in which you show up for those around you. š¤
