Today is Katie’s birthday!
Katie Guzinski joined Marguerite Rodgers as my assistant on August 10th, 2001—at the age of 24—and is now Principal and Executive Director.
Since founding the firm in 1980, I have had a handful of great assistants—all of whom were overqualified and soon promoted within. I keep no secrets from my assistants, so choosing the people with whom I form such an intimate relationship is a long, thoughtful process. I interviewed Katie four times before hiring her knowing that I needed someone who could be an alter ego of sorts. I had no idea how true this would be for us.
Her dedication and integrity were apparent from day one. When Katie started with our team, I had a 3-year-old son and was contemplating adopting a little girl from China. Katie stepped in to help us with the adoption paperwork (even delivering it to the Chinese Consulate) and accompanied me on work trips in any capacity necessary—even if it meant entertaining my son while I attended client meetings in far-flung locations. From day one, she ensured that I was able to do my job well; taking on any task necessary to allow that to happen.
Over the years, her job description has grown dramatically. She now runs the business; however, I have yet to hire another assistant, as she refuses to let anyone else manage my travel, my calendar, my emails, or me! After 25 years together, I now threaten to retire if she leaves, as I would be lost without her. She is the first point of contact with clients; and spearheads finance, human resources, marketing, public relations, facilities, and the financial side of our procurement.
Along with our Principal and Design Director, Marco Angelucci (who is about to celebrate 29 years!), Katie has helped me navigate the ups and downs of this business. She is invaluable—in myriad ways. I truly did find my alter ego when I found Katie.
Katie, I will be forever grateful for your honesty, dedication, humor, ingenuity, leadership but mostly for your trust and friendship.
Please join me in honoring and celebrating Katie’s many contributions to Marguerite Rodgers—and, of course, help me in wishing her a very happy 50th birthday!
