✨ FLASHBACK to one of our favorite full-home transformations from this year!

This home was ready to say goodbye to its early-2000s finishes, but it didn’t need to be completely reinvented. Instead, we focused on the updates that would make the biggest impact on how the home looked, felt, and functioned.

We updated the flooring, paint, lighting, countertops, backsplash, and cabinet hardware, then reconfigured the kitchen island to improve flow, maximize storage, and make the space work better for everyday living.

The result? A home that feels lighter, more current, more cohesive, and much more functional, without losing what already worked.

One of our favorite parts of a renovation is figuring out what should stay, what should go, and where the investment will make the biggest difference. 🤍

“Why hire an interior designer when ChatGPT can design my house?” 👀

Fair question.

AI can give you a gorgeous kitchen in about 30 seconds.

What it can’t tell you is that the outlet is going to land in the middle of your backsplash, your pendants aren’t properly placed, the tile installer needs a detailed layout, your cabinetry conflicts with the electrical plan, or that beautiful sofa won’t actually fit through your doorway.

That’s the difference between creating a pretty picture and actually designing a home.

Interior designers don’t just select finishes and furniture. We think through the hundreds of decisions happening behind the scenes and make sure the cabinetry, lighting, plumbing, electrical, materials, furnishings and construction all work together.

AI is an amazing tool. We use it too.

But when you’re investing tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars into your home, there are some things you probably don’t want to leave to a chatbot. 😉

Six years ago, Macy Lane Designs was little more than a dream, a lot of determination, and a deep belief that great design has the power to change how people live in their homes.

Today, we're incredibly honored to be recognized by the Phoenix Business Journal as one of Phoenix's Top Design Firms.

As a small business owner, milestones like this mean so much because they're really a reflection of the amazing clients, talented trades, vendor partners, and community who have trusted us along the way. We never take that trust for granted.

While the Detroit area will always be our first home, we're equally grateful to continue growing our presence in Phoenix, helping homeowners in both markets create homes that are beautiful, functional, and uniquely their own.

To everyone who has welcomed us into your home, referred a friend, shared our work, or cheered us on over the past six years, thank you. This recognition belongs to all of you, too.

People often ask where the name Macy Lane Designs came from. Today, on the 18th anniversary of rescuing this sweet little girl from a backyard breeder, it feels like the perfect time to share the story.

Meet Macy Doolittle Wright. She was my very first dog, my soul dog, and the sweetest little schnauzer a girl could ever hope for.

No matter what kind of day we'd had, Macy greeted us with pure joy every time we walked through the door. She made our house feel like home.

That feeling has stayed with me all these years, and it's exactly what I hope to create for every client. Beautiful homes are important, but the real goal is creating spaces that make you exhale, feel at peace, and genuinely love walking through your front door.

Macy crossed the Rainbow Bridge about three months before I launched my business. When it came time to choose a name, I couldn't think of a more meaningful way to honor the little dog who brought so much love, comfort, and happiness into my life.

So every time you hear the name Macy Lane Designs, you're hearing a little piece of her story.

If you're a dog lover, you understand. ❤️🐾

Imagine spending 2.5 million dollars on a house, only to move in and realize the builder or the contractor could have done things so much better!

Take a look at these two kitchens...

One has cabinets that stop short of the ceiling, a.k.a. - a major dust ledge; outlets cutting through the beautiful slab backsplash; no pendant lighting; hardware that disappears; trim molding that does not match the cabinets; boring drywall on the vent hood, and drywall on the back of the island that's destined to be covered in scuff marks from kids' shoes.

The other was thoughtfully designed from the beginning.
This isn't about criticizing builders or contractors. They have a lot to manage! It's about showing how much better a home can function and feel when a designer is involved before construction begins.

The details matter. And they're often the difference between a house you like and a home you absolutely love.

Before becoming an interior designer, I owned a PR agency, but design has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I've been obsessed with homes, furnishings, and renovations since I was a kid, and for the last 6 years I've been remodeling, decorating, and helping homeowners create spaces they truly love.
