Hello! Happy fall and Samhain and Halloween and orange and pumpkins and hot cups of ユ ミ ズ コ ー ヒ ー Y U M I ‘ S C O F F E E ! It’s here! It’s October! 🎃🍂☕️

Giles and I can walk outside, I mean, only after 7 p.m. but hey, that’s more than we could do last month!

I’m also doing something I’ve never done before. Ever.

I’m offering 40% off Halloween carvings priced over $60, and I’m being very loose with my definition of a “Halloween carving.”

There are a handful of you who have wanted some very specific and special carvings for a long time. I’ve been on this journey of desire with you, and I want to see it happen!

So, for a few completely random examples, the alligator, goat head, rat, Dragon Momma, and Angry Beaver are all part of the Halloween carving sale. Just sayin’.

This was the blend I used the other day, and it turned out so cozy, warm, sweet, and spicy! ✨

I think we’ll do cranberries and fresh ginger for our halloween group simmer. What do you think?

🍂October Simmer Pot🍂

Ingredients:
1 Granny Smith apple
1 lemon
1 orange
3 whole star anise
1 cinnamon stick
1 pinch of whole cloves
1 pinch of culinary juniper berries
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1 tablespoon brown sugar
Water

Directions:

Cut the apple, lemon, and orange into thick slices. Thick slices aren’t required, but they hold together better during a long simmer. Place the sliced fruit in the bottom of the pot, then add enough water to cover it generously.

Heat the water until it reaches a gentle simmer. On my electric countertop burner, level 4 works well for warming it up. Once I see light steam and occasional small bubbles, I reduce the heat to level 1. Burner settings vary, so adjust yours as needed.

Next, arrange the star anise, cinnamon stick, cloves, and juniper berries on top of the fruit. Sprinkle the pumpkin pie spice and brown sugar over everything. I don’t stir or deliberately submerge the spices—I like keeping them floating decoratively on top. The warmth and steam will still release their fragrance.

Allow the pot to simmer uncovered, checking it frequently. Never let it simmer dry. Add more water whenever the level begins to get low or the ingredients are no longer generously covered.

When the fragrance needs a refresh, I sometimes add a few more cloves or pieces of star anise, along with another light sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice or brown sugar.

**For fragrance only—do not drink. Keep the simmer pot attended, check the water frequently, and turn off the burner before leaving leaving home or going to sleep.**

There is so much I love about my job, but one of my favorite things is making cutie graphics!

When the seasons change, my graphics change with them to reflect the new colors, moods, and energy. I get to dream up an idea, choose the fonts, colors, and music, rearrange everything approximately 400 times, and then watch it slowly come together.

If you catch my morning Stories, you may have noticed that I share the shop hours every day, followed by a coordinating parking map. I’ve been creating these matching daily Stories for the past five years, and refreshing the designs, colors, and music is still one of my favorite parts of my job.

On the subject of cutie graphics, the one I’m sharing today announces a TCL history-making sale!
