This isn’t my typical post, but I feel compelled to share. 💜
This is a timeline of various events spanning from July 2025 to May 2026, during which time I struggled with Achalasia.
September is Achalasia Awareness Month, and it’s also my 6-month POEM procedure anniversary.
Achalasia is a rare, incurable, progressive disease that affects the esophagus. Basically, it’s nerve damage that prevents the esophagus from functioning properly. I was diagnosed with Type II in the spring after dealing with severe GERD for a few years.
What started as a joke, “Oh My GERD!”, rapidly turned into a major shift in my health and well-being in July 2025.
In March, I underwent the POEM procedure, which cuts the muscle at the bottom of the esophagus to allow food and liquids to pass through again. I’m about 90% back to normal, but still on medication and have occasional symptoms because there is no true cure for Achalasia.
From the outside, most people had no idea how much I struggled over the last year but here is a look at what was going on behind the blooms…
YES, we had some phenomenal events and hit major milestones. BUT I did most of it while malnourished or severely dehydrated.
Without God, I’m certain I wouldn’t be here today. I literally cannot explain how we cranked out multi-day weddings and events when I could barely swallow my own saliva most days.
My family, close friends, and friendors have been my anchor. Checking on me, offering me food and drinks even when I couldn’t swallow, being patient when I needed to excuse myself during meetings, offering to help on event days… the list goes on.
Every bit of that kindness is not lost on me, including the few couples who knew I was unwell and extended so much grace.
I’m sharing my testimony to remind someone that your best days are ahead of you, so keep chasing your dreams and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
Also, a lot of prayer and a little delusion will seriously take you far. 😂
YES, I have Achalasia, BUT I have so much to be grateful for, and I’m so excited for this fall season and all of the cake that lies ahead. 🎂
