So, what's on my mind. Well... it's my wife, Lori Klindera-Varrato and Lorenzo our kitty.
Another author aske me, how do I see my book, "Whiskers of the Heart" impacting readers and the world.
My response was, "That's a great question and a bit difficult to answer as "Whiskers of the Heart" is my first book."
On that day I was a bit overwhelmed with emotions of possibly eminent loss of our kitty, Lorenzo. He wasn't doing well, following a terrible case of constipation. I thought, at the time, that we were on hospice watch with him. He had been to the vet but there isn't much they can do for him. We were feeding him with a syringe but that was something he absolutely did not like.
Lori & I were absolute basket cases that day.
However, today, Lorenzo is doing much better. He went back to the vet and got a very good prognosis. Lorenzo is not totally out of the woods yet, but he is doing much better today.
But to the question, 'how do I perceive my influence of books and storytelling on society; the story of Floof. Well... for openers, Floof was inspired from my kitty, Lorenzo. The story has several themes within the story. Becuase this was my very first attempt at writing and this story was kind of a hodgepodge of many emotions that were rumbling around in my head, heart and stomach, at the time, I don't think I did a very good job of protecting the longevity of the characters.
Of course, Floof comes to the rescue of Luna when she is a kitten, being bullied by other cats in the neighborhood. I my have rushed the story through many years of their friendship to where Luna must say goodbye to Floof, in the book.
As a matter of fact, I find myself in a rather precarious position today, reviewing my own work.
I tried to convey, in this story, a theme of nobly standing up for what is right, the meaning of friendship with no barriers and of course the idea that memories of special individuals in your life, will live forever in your heart, mind and actions.
I guess I could go on and on, but the day I reflected on the question by another author, I was simply really sad as I reflected on the time I have had with Lorenzo.
I was angry at myself for all the times I scolded him for walking on my keyboard, or for all the times that I picked him up when he looked up with those, "don't you love me any more" eyes, considering that his pouting action was sort of inconvenient for me at the moment.
What I can say to anyone who reads this post is, if you have a pet and he or she does something that annoys you or really pi**es you off, GET OVER IT... quickly!
Those inconveniences of life with a pet like, the shoe that was torn apart, or the fur on your freshly pressed shirt, skirt or slacks will become precious memories. You'll realize that, in the grand scheme of life, they meant nothing!
The loss of that little soul from your life will overwhelm you with guilt and regret.
So, don't put yourself in that position. Love and embrace all of those inconveniences. For, in reality, they are, in fact, simply inconveniences... and not the emotional earthquake you perceived them to be, in the moment.
So, for now, I can only say, with regard to my future writings, they will almost certainly be framed around animals, perhaps mostly cats, but truly any animal.
My fondest wish is that Lori & I become wealthy enough through my books and our affiliate marketing journey, that my wife and I can open an animal shelter for unwanted pets, cats in particular, but honestly, any animal.
Finally, I want to say to all who read this post, know this to be very true, If you are not inclined to effectively care for a pet, DO NOT bring one into your life. They require not only food and drink, but they require competent health care and medical intervention. Not unlike medical care for humans, it can be very expensive. Pet insurance does not work like human medical insurance. In fact, I think it's nearly useless, unless you use it for pet health maintenance. Pet insurance doesn't cover nearly the breadth of what human medical insurance covers.
So bottom line, be responsible. Pets are not toys or playthings that you can simply, 'get tired of and discard' when you are through with the pet. They are a lifetime commitment and... as Health Inspector Yellowtail Andy and Sponge Bob Square Pants say, "Pets Are People Too"
Finally, I leave you with this thought...
Dogs have owners but...
Cat's have staff
