LESSONS from Nature ( #1)
A wonderful coach, mentor, friend of mine has recently re-opened my eyes to the wonders, miracles and lessons to be found in nature. I don’t even know how the conversation began but he asked me what there was for me to learn from the Firefly. This instantly brought me back to my childhood and summer nights in Hickory Hills, Illinois. We lived in a pretty rural area and Fireflies were a magical and captivating part of those summers. When he asked me this question I cringed and thought about how we kids would capture them and put them in glass jars to make temporary lights. I even remember, much to my horror now, my cousin showing me how to pull off the light and put it on the top of my ring finger to mimic a diamond ring. I had to think for a bit about what lesson was in this for me. “If you shine too brightly you’ll attract evildoers?” “Don’t let yourself get caught?” There was a time in my life (maybe not too far in the past) that those lessons and beliefs would have resonated and felt true.
I thought a bit more, and all I know about Fireflies is that the ordinary looking male by daylight lights up to attract a mate at precisely the right time and at the right place. They light up based on their instinct or intuition and manage to attract their perfect mate. Hmmm. Lighting up to attract? Isn’t that true for me, too? I suddenly could think of so many instances where, when I was on my game, taking care of me, in a state of gratitude, bringing the joy and trusting my instincts, my light was shining brightly, and I did (and do) attract great things. Conversely, whenever I put a basket over my own light by minimizing my value, and every time I tried to control rather than trust, I still attracted…..just not great things.
So, grab your shades people! 😎This gal is shining bright and living her purpose!
