Costs are so high now and the odds are stacked against most small businesses. Despite having very busy spring we’re looking at any way we can to cut costs at the shop- but that also means doing so at home, because when our business is impacted so are we. Everything from our bags to our rags, power and plants has shot up and we’re working hard not to increase pricing in any way we can when we can.

About three months ago our old hand-me-down dryer started making a funky sound and I decided to see if I could switch to hang drying, a month later we put the dryer in shed and in doing so our home is quieter and we’re saving power and making less heat. Our power bill also stopped rising for the first time in years.

This is the first time we’ve hung all the rags outside on a new line we made last week with some random bits and ropes we had lying around that I found organizing the shed.

Taking the time to slow down, save and just all around simplify my life lately has brought so many pros but it’s been a strange adjustment. It feels like life is moving so fast, so slowing down takes patience.

Anyway, you’ll see our stained rags around Pueblo when you’re in- and know that literally everything we do we do with intention. 🤙🏼

It’s been a few years since I made a post about this Echinopsis I planted as a memorial to our old shop dog. It’s apparent why it’s lovingly named ‘Flying Saucer’ when you look at it. Blooms last around 15 hours and fade to nothing within a day.

This dude is a few years old and gets afternoon sun and some fertilizer from Bennie, who we buried here and planted this over. Maybe in a few years i’ll get a few arms to root and offer them for sale, but I got this at the DBG plant sale as a barefoot a few years back.

A morbid beauty and sweet memorial. Can’t wait to see what it does next spring 👽🛸👽 #

Botanical Term of the Week!

Lots of plants are strangely hairy and its all intentional! While many cultivars are selected for extreme pubescence, in the wild it serves different purposes depending on the environment. For cactus trichomes shield its skin from the intense sun. And for airplants they help moisture stick to their absorbent skin. For sundews modified trichomes secrete a sticky dew to catch their prey. And in Venus fly traps they are used as triggers to detect when prey is in within its grasp.

New candle, diffuser, and incense scents! We have an arsenal of fragrances in the shop not just because we like them and they make great gifts but because Pueblo originally started as Michael selling homemade candles at a farmers market. Over ten years later and fragrances are still one of our most popular items. We get asked a lot what the scent in the store is and its just all the different candles mixed with the petrichor smell from all the soil and plants.

Yeah yeah I know I keep talking about cacti and succulents but we have SO MANY. The Garden has actually felt incredibly to be in recently with the slightly cooler temps the last couple of days and all the new plants make it feel even better.

Let’s just say we got a RADass few orders in today- some incredible Euphorbia, Musa, massive Farfugiums, EVEN MORE MASSIVE BIRD OF PARADISE AND some 3’ tall Hercules Aloe (they’re like $22 and you won’t find a better freaking deal in the entire country.)

We chose all these plants specifically for our scorching Sonoran summer and it’s climate at this point of year at this place on earth. We play a lot faith fun succulents in winter but this transition period is when we bring in our hardy beasts come out to play in the heat.

Anyway, we have cameras, we have colognes and we have just an all around cool selection of really unique specimens.
